Hepatosupport I'm thinking about switching from Denamarin to Denosyl/Vetri-DMG and Hepatosupport. However, I'm a little confused on if I need to supplement with Vitamin E as well. I know hepatosupport has more B vitamins than the denamarin, however does it have vitamin E as well. I'm a little confused and trying to switch since the Denamarin seems to make Mayme's stomach hurt so much. Also - I know the yahoo group recommends the Vetri-DMG, but I don't see anywhere where that product helps the liver. :confused: |

Methionine in turn is used to produce S-Adenosylmethionine (SAMe), the active transmethylating agent in the body." '' SAMe is adenosylmethionine which is "denosyl." Denamarin does not contain b-vitamins but has a small amount of vitamin E. Hepatosupport contains b-vitamins but not vitamin E, so you would need to supplement with vitamin E if you want your baby to have vit E. |
Hmm, I though hepato support contained vitamin e. So much to remember.:rolleyes: Although Ellie can't have milk thistle right now because she has GI issues and I couldn't tell if it was irritating her, I was giving it from GNC. You can give your own vitamin e with it. It is cheap, so I like it.;) |
Nope, no vitamin E, but it is still excellent because it contains b-vitamins, choline, alpha lipoic acid, etc. I agree :) vitamin E is great...very cheap! |
Wow. Thank you for the information! I went to the vet yesterday and asked about switching from the Denamarin. I'm definately going to put her on the hapato support. (love the extra b vitamins) and probably try denosyl with that instead of the Vetri DMG. I don't know why..I just feel that denosyl might be better. :confused: We also switched from Hills i/d to Royal Canin Hepatic. *Crossing my fingers we get her throwing up under control now!* |
Great!! Just curious...When is she throwing up? The dosage for samE (denosyl) is about 10 mg per lb of body weight...A 5 lb dog, would need approx. 50 mg. Denosyl sometimes makes the smaller dogs (under 6-8 lbs or so) nauseous because the smallest dosage is 90 mg and that's more than the smaller yorkies require. It doesn't hurt them, it just causes nausea in some of them. Denamarin contains 90 mg of s-adenosylmethionine also. Also, it's important that meals be spread out into small but frequent meals...4 at the minimum b/c having only 2 meals causes nausea in many liver compromised dogs as well... Having only 2 larger meals per day vs. having 4 smaller meals per day makes them take in more food (and protein specifically) at one time which causes their little livers too work too hard at once... Both Hepatosupport and Vetri-DMG can be given with food and at the same time if you want...no need to give on an empty stomach. Yes, you give hepatosupport and vetri-dmg OR hepatosupport and denosyl :) I would start out with less and build your way up to the proper dosage. The recommended dosage for dogs less than 25 lbs is 0.5 mL daily. If it were me, I would start out at 0.125 mL in the morning and 0.125 mL in the evenings. Then, work your way up to 0.25 mL twice daily. |
I was just reading this and found it very interesting. My vet put both my girls on Denamarin after their poisoning. I find it hard to get them to take the pill as it is kind of big. I don't want to have to force it down every day. Any advice? |

I got Zoeybear to take it with a pill pocket. I am hoping once Chloe gets a little better she will take a pill pocket too. She is still on her hunger strike at the moment. |

not sure if this is completely correct or not but I open the capsule of hapato support and spread it out over two meals, have been doing it this way for over 7 months now and it works fine, Copper is only 4lbs and there is no way that he needs a full pill at once. We still supplement with vitamin E and fish oil among other things. I dont put it in the middle of day meals, just morning and night. |
Where is the best place to order the hepato support and denestra? I\'m having a problem locating one on-line pharmacy that carries both. |
