lotion for doggie's dry skin milu has really dry skin. i use oatmeal shampoo, conditioner, and i try to spray on the leave-in conditioner as well, but she still has flaky skin. is there lotion for doggies? her coat is very shiny and soft, but her skin get flaky. thank you! :D (i bath her once a week) |
I think part of the problem is you are bathing her too often- I bathe Layla- especially in the winter- every 2-3 weeks because her skin is also VERY dry. But she still needs extra help on her tummy which is always dryer than everywhere else and i use Aveeno Baby Fragrance Free lotion. |

i think it is a bit too frequent for her skin type. but i love it when she smells so good after a bath! :D how do you keep her smelling like a baby in between baths? maybe i should just use the wipes on her everyday, especially after she eats...or is that not a good idea? |

I don't use wipes or sprays- i think that only adds to the oil in her hair which would end up making me bathe her more often- so they would kinda be counter productive. |

milu doesn't mind taking a bath, it's her face/head getting wet that she really hates! |

Also, I've heard that oatmeal is more drying if you use it every bath. |

Definitely don't need to bath more than once every 2 weeks. I use johnsons 2 in 1 anti tangle shampoo and conditioner for Molly, which has improved her fur lots..it has a nice sheen to it now. Dont worry if your little one doesnt smell like a baby all the time in between baths...she is allowed to smell like a doggy sometimes! I love the smell of mollys feet...a mixture of cheese and grass!! ;) |
I use earthbath vanilla almond spritz to keep mine smelling good inbetween baths |
There is a member on here that is always posting about how oatmeal is more drying if used over and over. I have looked it up and found where others state the same thing. I've looked for articles on it and haven't found anything yet but I'm not good with wording things properly to get the best search results. I know I stopped using it because I would use it every bath and Lilly was itching even more. However, I used it last night and she hasn't been itching as much last night and today. Maybe there will be some clarification somewhere but I have seen first hand how it dries out even more. |
I don't wash them every week when it's this cold out. I use mane and tail which was originally for horses. I use it on my own hair, and the babies and there here is always soft and silky with a beautiful shine. |
I use salmon oil on chesters wet food its good for the skin and coat |

oh, and there IS another shampoo that the groomer recommended me, i think it's been helping. i dont remember what it is called right now, but i can certainly look for you if you are interested. |

I saw in another thread that hylyt shampoo may work. I may give that a try. Yes, I would be interested to know what shampoo you're using. BTW, I just checked the shampoo I've been using and it's Tropiclean with oatmeal. |
i was having this problem. I went online and found Dermagic I think its called! It has worked wonders on Rudy. His skin was dry and flakey looked like it was snowing in the house. Now i barely see any flakes. Its a little pricey but if you buy the complete system its a little cheaper. |
Little punkin' Milu may need some fatty acid supplementation. I like (and give my guys) Ark Natural Royal Coat since it has fish oil (EPA/DHA) and then also the fatty acids GLA (esp. good for skin issues) and LA (which is the 'essential' fatty acid for dogs), plus vit a/d/e. You can get it at Whole Foods, and some other stores, and online. :) |

I've always had an issue with dry flakey skin with my boy I have yet to find a a good shampoo that works for him! |
Dry Patch My furbaby had a dry patch that was all flaky and red. It looked like it bothered him alot so I took him to the vet and he gave me a bottle of PYOBEN...its a medicated shampoo for dogs:aimeeyork, cats :cat: and horses by VIRBAC Animal Health, and a few baths later, the mean bad patch was gone and hasn't come back :D |
I think you should check her Diet Skin problem's alway's start on the inside. |
Coconut oil...try it, it works. |
My baby has the same problem. My groomer said it's internal and to change his diet to Solid Gold or Nutromax. She also mentioned adding fish oil to his food. |
