Nervous about Rabies Shot Tomorrow...HELP! I have been trying to put off Sophie's rabies shot for a while now but I have an appointment for tomorrow. Im nervous because she is 5 months old and only weighs 2.2 LBS. The vet keeps telling me she is way over due for it but I am worried she is too small and may have negative effects. Can any one give me your thoughts? I am thinking of asking for 1/2 doses but she is so small I worry even that could hurt her!! Help!! |
My vet only gave Feather a half dose but most vets won't do this. I think she will be fine but if you're worried stay at the vets office foe 30 minutes or so in case she has any reaction |

That is EXACTLY what we used to do for small breeds at the one vets i worked out! Vaccine reactions usually occur within 30 min after giving the vaccine. |
That sounds like a good idea but what kinds of reactions can occur and can they be treated?? |
I agree waiting there is a good idea. If anything goes wrong you'll be in the right place to take care of it. |
I would wait as long as possible since she is sooo small. my vet gave my Sassy a half dose at 5lbs! Also if your vet wont give her a half dose then I would find one that will! My Sassy had a terible reaction even with the half dose so my vet put on her record that she is to always be pre-medicated before all of her vaccines. |

If your dog has a vaccine reaction, the vet will mark it in the chart, and the next time they come in for vaccines they will usually pre-medicate with bendryl and prednisone, which is a steroid! |
