The pickiest Yorkie ever!! HELP!! So Snickers seems to like his food one day, not like it the next, and sometimes does not eat which freaks me out. He has not been hot for his food in a long time. I have tried small portions of the following mixed with his Merrick Puppy Plate and no success-Merrick BG (all flavors), NB Duck and Potato, Innova Chicken Small Bites, and Orijen Fresh Fish-yes he even disliked this one!! He ate a bit of the Innova and today and yeterday he had MASSIVE, HUGE, slimy poop...gross!! I don't think that much protein is agreeing with him. Again, he is not excited to eat at all. I will say he has been having to have string cheese in order to take his UTI antibiotics--this is the only hassle free way to give him his meds. Well he only gets 2 small bits of cheese in the morning and 2 in the evening and I know he is still hungry but he only picks at his kibble. Today I went to a new all natural feed store and the very knowledgeable gal said of course raw is best and then grainfree but she gave me some samples of food she considers great--I'll take her word for it. She gave me Nature's Logic Lamb and Snick loved it. Was excited for it...yet--to my luck--none of my fellow Yorkie lovers feed it. What do I do!!!?? It's a 4 star on dogfoodanalysis. Looks good...hmmmm. Any suggestions!? And I do not want to give him canned everyday...not good for the teeth. Any other GOOD foods out there that are Lamb based that your dog LOVES!!? THANKS!!! -Vivian:animal-pa |

Dogfoodanalysis is a very controversial site. I like it to compare ingredients, but do not think twice about the ratings it gives. They give the highest ratings to the food with the highest protein levels. Super high protein kibble is not appropriate for all dogs. I would stick with Nature's Logic if your boy will eat it. |
I have to agree, if your Snickers will eat it consistently, why worry? Pick a food that he loves, which you have and stick with it, don't risk upsetting his digestive system with foods that I feel are simply just too rich for these little guys. |
Nature's Logic comes in 4 varieties....chicken, lamb, venison and duck/salmon. The chicken and lamb are rated 4 stars and the venison and duck/salmon are rated 5 (on dogfoodanalysis.com). All varieties have a 36% protein content. I'm probably the only one here that feeds it and can easily recommend it. It is the ONLY kibble that needs no added vitamins and minerals to meet AAFCO requirements. My Yorkies are very active and all seem to thrive on NL and they all like it....no picky eaters in the bunch. :) |
Thank you everyone!! You're always so helpful and supportive. I gave it to Snick this morning and he ate about 3/4 of it. Would not touch his old kibble. I am going to see how it goes for a few days. At least I know he likes Lamb. He LOVES his Venison Wellness No Grain Jerky Treats so I might try to NL Venison as well. At least I know what meat he likes..he is so sick of chicken, won't touch a thing with it in it. I do love the grainless aspect of things, maybe he would like the EVO Red Small bites (beef/lamb)...but then again I don't like the hot, steaming, big, soft, POOP, but then again it might be different on the different meat...this is so HARD!! UGH!! -Anyone feed Innova Red Small Bites?? BIG & GROSS POOP???? -V:animal-pa |

I am a brand new dog owner, but may have something to say about the picky eater. Tecla would only eat the Nutram that she came with, but upon research, i learned it was not the quality I wanted to feed her - she was eating her poop and such. So I looked into the raw food diet. I get her home4life....pets4life....she loves it. For such a small dog, it is relatively inexpensive to feed it, and I feel so good knowing that it is so healthy for her. There are obviously a lot of people for or against going raw, but i am definately for it. Just an idea........ |
