A few random questions... I may have seen these on other threads, but just to be certain, I figured I'd ask on here: I've heard that yogurt and cottage cheese are 2 really good "human foods" that yorkies can have. (in fact, 2 of the best) Well for 1, is that true? If so, what kind of yogurt & cottage cheese would anyone recommend? I eat yogurt myself usually everyday or every other day and I feel bad 'cause my baby looks up at me and always expects something. How much is an ideal amount for them and how often? My little one also likes to jump....really high....and A LOT  She does it especially when we come home, but we all immediately tell her to sit so we can come down to her level. She's always up on her hind legs though, whether if it's to get our attention or to jump. She's always jumping off of everything to (i.e. couches, bed, etc.) which we try to catch her before she does it because I know it's horrible for their legs, but she's a quick little bugger. Anyways, is there some kind of vitamin that would be good for her legs to help strengthen them? I fear that when she gets older, she's gonna have some terrible arthritis so I figured if I could start now giving her a vitamin that helps with bone or muscle strength (almost like calcium or something similiar) maybe she won't get it as bad? Any input would be greatly appreciated!:D |
I usually maybe once a week will give a teaspoon of plain cottage cheese. I can give a dollip of plain yogurt as well as a little treat. I don't give any of the flavored yogurts. I suggest you get her some doggie steps. People can give some supplements but tend to do that if there is a problem or as they get older. The yogurt and cottage cheese are both good sources of calcium. Feed her a good quality food and you should be good to go. |

She's on Solid Gold right now and has been doing great with it. I'm sure she'd enjoy the cottage cheese & yogurt as a little treat. |

You have to train her to do the steps. Use some treats and get her that way. Broken bones happen very easily and can cost and arm and a leg to repair. |
Make sure you don't feed her yogurt that has artificial sweeteners as they are toxic to dogs. Stonyfield plain organic yogurt is a great choice as is Dannon plain. As far as cottage cheese, buy the lowfat kind, not the 4% milkfat. |

To be honest, I don't really have the room in my bedroom for her to have doggie steps. I do have this blue cushion object (I'm not sure what it's called, it can fold into a bed or as a chair, completely cushioned all the way around) that sits next to my bed, so she uses that most of the time when getting on and off of my bed. |

I know I've heard of Dannon, but I'm not sure about Stonyfield. Next time I'm at the grocery store, I'll look into it. |
