undescended testicles help has anyone out there been through this my boy is 9 months old and only one testicle has come down i am so angry with the so called breeder that she would breed knowing this is a genetic defect before i bought sebastian i read yorkies for dummies i read about undescended testicles i specifically asked the "breeder" had his testicles come down she looked suprised and said what a great question and answered of course fyi by 8 weeks you should be able to see the testes under the penis i wish the book would have stated this now i believe we have to have exploratory surgery $$$$$$ AND MY HUSBAND HAS LOST HIS JOB is there anything i can do because i am sure she is still breeding grandma kelly |
I don't think it's a biggie by 8 weeks if they haven't decended. By 8 months they should be down. Sorry to hear that your hubby was laid off. Maybe it would be better if you took him to your local humane society for the neuter. They charge a small fraction of what the private vet charges. When I had to Neuter Toby (hubby had just gotten laid off) my vet wanted $450 plus tax while the ASPCA charged me $58 for the whole deal with meds to go home and all. |
If he hasn't dropped by now he isn't going to and yes that does mean surgery to find the undesended one. Did you sign a contract with this breeder stating that you were buying for breeding? If so then you can go after her for the cost of the puppy and return the pup or maybe do a partial refund, or if she is an honest breeder and stands behind her contract maybe she will help to pay for the surgery. I hope that all works out for you and that your baby comes thru all of this alright. But I would defenately have him neutered as undescended testicals can become cancerous. Has this breeder had puppies with this problem before? |
TJ was neutered at 7 or 8 months and his were not decended either. The vet did have to dig around, but he was able to locate and remove them. The neuter was normal fee of $125 Friends of Animals: Friends of Animals | Spay and Neuter Certificate Information Has a spay / neuter program. As them for a list of Vets in your area that except their coupons. Call the Vet and ask about this coupon and the current situation and go from there. (Male dog is $64) |
In all probability, if it hasn't dropped by now, it's not going to. I did however have a smaller male that didn't drop his first until 12 months and his second until 16 1/2 months. He had an older brother that did almost the exact same thing. From what I have come to understand, it *can* take a bit longer (or in our case, a LOT longer) with smaller males. Just out of curiosity, if she clamied the were down by 8 weeks...couldn't YOU look when you got him and see that they were 'missing.' |
