Tear Stains What is the best product for tear stains. I read some of the products in the store and they say keep out of eyes. Well, how am I suppose to do that when I want it for her eyes. Sheryl, Bartlett, IL (mom to PeanutAnn) |
I am looking for something too.. I heard Angel Eyes worked...but some people don't like it....it is an antibiotic (low dose)...and very expensive....some said bottled water(distilled) which I use...haven't seen a difference...someone suggested peroxide...wiping under their eyes... There are a lot of products out there ... I just haven't tried them yet..... My Yorkie is not so bad..but my Biewer has discoloring tear stains...because she is white...so I will be watching this thread.... |
Tear Stains I am new to this site and a first time Yorkie owner, they are so asume!! Ours is casey, and he is almost 11 months old. We live in Minn, and had a very cold and hard winter. However our Casey barks when he needs to go out, he does not dawdle out there. I found some pets eye pads, that work very well for cleaning his eyes, and are not harmful to his eyes. He actually likes getting them cleaned. However its aconstant thing with him, I was told the key is to keep the hair very short by their eyes. Hard to do as it grows so fast. He gets no stain, as he is black and this beaiutiful brown. It at least is not as noticeable due to his coloring. Good luck, Mary:aimeeyork |
I use angel eyes, it works and you dont need to use the recommended amount to see results. Like it was already said, some folks dont recommend it because it is a antibiotic and I guess it can also elevate liver enzymes in some yorkies. (i maybe not be 100 percent correct on that thou ). It is fairly expensive, I buy the smaller bottle for 20 dollars but I use it so little that it has lasted me a year. I have tried every cleaning product out there meant for dogs an none of them worked for her, I have tried cleaning them everyday, (sometimes several times a day) keeping her hair away from her eyes (she is groomed every 6 weeks)and the distilled water. I guess her's are just more stubborn than the normal dog. So far with Tucker his hasnt been to bad and I just wipe his everyday with a baby wipe and they come clean. Im open to anymore suggestions as too how to keep my poodles clean with out using the angel eyes. :animal36 |
I too use Angel Eyes. I have a 1/4 teaspoon scoop that I use 1/2 of. I put that scoop on a plate and cut up bits of cheese for my dogs that i roll in the cheese. The dogs eat the cheese with the angel eyes on it. I really saw an improvement with my teapot Dayzee--she always had hard gunk under eyes--now she has none. It also has improved but not totally eliminates the stains on my Biewers. |
Where can you get Angel Eyes? Is this stuff you sprinkle on their food? |
I too have heard great things about Angel Eyes. Here is a web site that has several different products to choose from to help with tear stains. They do carry Angel Eyes as well: Dog Tear Stains - GW Little |

Thanks for the link. I'll check it out. |
nothing works For Louie I have tried angel eye ,angel glow, diamond eye ,peroxide, secret, toothpaste, and other under eye cleaner now Im trying angel delight all natural oh and distilled water did not work. |
i used angel eyes and it did work. it is just too much $$$$ for us now. i give him purified water and wipe out his eye gunk with warm water on a wash cloth and the eye gunk is under control. |
I used Angel Eyes and it worked wonderfully.. BUT I went in for Bile Acid tests on all of my dogs and all came back high. I stopped using Angel Eyes, retested everyone and they were all within normal readings after 12 weeks.. I wouldn't recommend using Angel Eyes, eye gunk can be cleaned with water and a comb, to me, it's just not worth the risk. JMO Diana :animal-pa |

tear stain remedy? possibly my yorkie had bad tear stains. i did buy angel eyes and the cheapest i found was on amazon.com. i also googled Braggs apple cider vinegar on another topic and was amazed to read about the benefits of apple cider vinegar to dogs. i put a couple of drops of vinegar into my yorkie's food and i also put the angel eyes on her food. i put less than recommended for angel eyes. since starting the apple cider vinegar my dogs tear stains are diminishing. there are more benefits. check out the braggs site. i'm taking it also... |
