Solid as a Rock - poop - help! My Lucy has been a bit off-colour today (Sleepy, lethargic and wanting cuddles all day). The cuddles bit isn't unusual, but I've just picked up 2 x poops which were VERY hard and a bit pale in colour (kind of cafe latte). She's due for her dinner in around half an hour - would it be okay to add a tiny bit of extra virgin olive oil to her meal? Any other suggestions which won't involve a trip to the shops, as I'm car-less until tomorrow and have nowhere close at hand? Please help.:(:( |

Good luck with your girl, hopefully she's be feeling back to normal tomorrow. |
Sadly, I don't think we can get caned pumpkin in the UK - but will check this out, thanks! |
Unless there is actual straing to go hard poops are not a bad thing. Firm bm's help to empty their anal glands while soft ones do not |
Jeanietoo: I didn't actually witness the 'performance' - but am grateful for your comments and will watch her closely over the the next 12 - 24 hours. |
Thanks, everyone, for your input - Lucy's poops are a little more normal today. I did add a tiny drop of sunflower oil to her dinner last night, on the advice of a friends who's had tiny dogs for 20 years). Lucy has spent a mad hour on the beach - full of energy and back to her usual zoomie self, so hopefully the good run will have perked her system up, too. |

If there is straining going on, I'd look at diet first. Are you feeding kibble? Glad today is better for the little punkin'! |
As I say, I haven't been quick enough to witness if there was straining (but I guess there probably was - I know I would have, if mine had been that hard!) Her diet is pretty good, although she refuses to eat kibble (always has). She loves veg and apples, and her very favourite is celery (de-stringed first!) She's on good quality (vet recommended) wet food, and this constipation came out of nowhere. A friend suggested that it might have been a result of her being spayed about 10 days previously - maybe delayed effects / build up? Anyway - problem solved for now, but I'm definitely going to have to source canned pumpkin - any UK members know where I can get it, because I've never seen it before? |
