Tooth cleaning and removal Lily is going to be getting her teeth cleaned and she has about 5 that need to be removed. She is small at only 3 pounds and 4 oz.She has to have this done as she has horable breath!I am so nervous to take her!!She is going to be so soar and i am scared because they have to put her asleep to do it..What should i expect when i bring her home?WHat should i feed her and how long does it take them to recover from something like this? |
Baxter is 6.5 lbs so he's twice as big as her but he was fine about 2weeks a go he had one tooth pulled and the others cleaned. He never acted funny or anything. They did give him some pain medicine. I hope everything goes well. |
She should be back to normal by the next day most likely. She may be on pain meds and antibiotics. Just make sure the vet follows the correct surgery protocol and it is a lot safer. My dog (just over 5 pounds at the time) had nine adult teeth pulled and a cleaning. She did just fine. :) She ate softened kibble for about a week. This probably won't be too important if they are just baby teeth. |
Please make sure you do the complete pre-op blood work. I would also do a bile acid test, which isn't usually included in the pre-op panel. Sorry, I can't really answer your questions. Good luck though! |
Pixie had her's done in the summer and had 5 teeth removed. She is just under 4 lbs and they put her on antibiotics prior to and after since she had bad gums as well. I did the preop bloodwork which I would always do and she was fine. I brought her home that afternoon and she acted fine. Even tried to chew on a hoof! It was so nice to have her breath fresh and gums all cleaned up. I know it is scary but she will do fine. |
Daisy Mae just had all for canines pulled when she was spayed. She did just fine. I agree with the soft foods for about a week. Make sure she has plenty of water and keep a can of pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling with the spices). She may have some diahrrea from the anesthesia. Just give her about 1 tsp. if she needs it. No worries...she will be fine:) Kathy:animal-pa |
How old is your baby? Are these baby teeth being removed or adult? Just wondering b/c my alomost 7 mo, will need this done as i noticed some double teeth...UGH :(if only this was done while he was neutered... |
I was wondering if anyone could tell me who has their dogs teeth cleaned what they were charged for this one procedure? I talked to my vet last week about my pomeranian's teeth. Her breath stinks so bad she cannot sit by me very long or she'll run us all away from her in no time. He said I should expect to pay 150 for this and I thought that was pricey. Either way she needs it done so I will pay for this, she is fairly young. (5 years) P.S. I hope your procedure goes well and that little dog of yours is running around in no time!:D |
To have preop blood work, an IV, hospitalization for the day, a cleaning, nine adult teeth pulled, xrays, OraVet and some gum work done, it was $600 here. I would expect to pay at least $300-$400 if they are doing a cleaning and pulling adult teeth and doing everything the best way possible with xrays, etc. |

Prince had his teeth cleaned in November. It was $185. He did not need to have any pulled, thank goodness!! I think the prices are determined by the location. Prince's teeth were cleaned by his "birth" vet in Tampa. His vet here charges $240. and up. |
Thor will be going in for his evaluation this weekend. He is 3.5 #s, so I am nervous about the anathesia. Should I ask for anything in addition to a bile acid test? Here in sunny SF, multiple vets have quoted me $800 to extract four baby teeth. |
Angel will be going to have that done within the next 2 weeks....Her breath is really bad....She is 6 mos. old....Penny never had any extra teeth ....So this is new to us.. |
Lily is 3 years old and they are adult teeth, extra canines..My vet said that the cleaning and meds will be 120$ plus about 10$ a tooth to pull and she has 4 maybe 5 that need to come out. Thanks for the great advice!!!I will update when its done. |
A bit worried Dudley goes in tomorrow for his baby teeth to be removed and get chipped at the same time.:( He is 7mo/3.5lbs, When i got him he was 5mo, i asked the breeded why the baby teeth weren't removed while he was neutered? She said b/c they (baby) teeth weren't coming in yet:rolleyes: When do they start comming in and how long do you wait before getting them removed.:( Am i doing this too soon? My last yorkie had her's removed while she was spayed. I'm scared b/c it's something IMO that should have been done and now he has to go under AGAIN.. Should i wait longer? I feel I'm doing the right thing and our vet said it coudl have been done at 5 mo....(but if teeth weren't present) like breeded said...I'm confused about the time of teething....HELP |
