Feeding raw? After reading different posts, I switched Lexi to Nature's Variety, as it is much better than what I had been feeding her. When I went to the store yesterday, there happened to be a rep from NV there. I asked her some questions about the differences between Prairie and Instinct. Then I asked about raw and she told me about it. She gave me some coupons, and I bought 2 bags of the frozen medallions. I am a little nervous about using it, and I am hoping that those who feed raw can help. It does sound like it will be healthy, but reading the warnings make me concerned about making it a safe experience. My thoughts were, for now at least, to continue to feed the NV kibble, and to use the raw as a supplement. I was thinking of maybe giving one medallion a day. Would I take out one medallion at night and let it thaw in the fridge overnight? If I then gave it to Lexi in the morning, I would get rid of anything she hasn't eaten after 1/2 hour, right? Lexi is free-fed her kibble. I would continue to leave that out during the day. Do I have to worry about her poops, or anything that might be left on her face, around the mouth area, as far as bacteria? What about her water? If she drinks after eating, will she leave bacteria there? I haven't opened the package yet, so I don't know what they look like, but do I cut the medallion, or just give it to her whole? Any advice, suggestions, etc. would be appreciated. If there is any info. I didn't ask about, please feel free to share that too! And go ahead and break it down into simple steps for me... I am new to this and want it to be a positive, healthy experience for Lexi. And I will be honest - the whole idea of "raw" makes me nervous! Thank you :) |
No raw for lucy..... I tried raw food briefly for Lucy & Peb's. It didn't work for Lucy, after about 3 weeks & gradually increasing the amount from 1/4 to 1/2 to 1 whole round medallion a day, like the place I bought it instructed me, she was getting sick. I stopped raw food all together. This is just my experience with raw. For others, it seems to be great. I guess it depends on the dog. |
all of my 3 girls are on raw. they get NV raw in the morning and for dinner they get home cooked salmon. They have been on raw for over a year now. I feed NV also and i give them rabbit, venison, lamb since my little Tumi is very allergic to chicken. I just thaw the next day portion in the fridge a night before. They each get 1 medillion. |
