allergies Hi! Does anyone have a Yorkie with allergies that can cannot find out what they are? |
Welcome to yorkie talk!! I am sure someone on here does. Try looking in the health section. Many times it is due to food and I have even seen a few that were allergic to something in dirt. Has your pup been seen by a vet? |
Yes, I have 3 yorkies, and two are allergic to "something". We've done the elimination diet (salmon and potatoe) and they still had allergic reactions. Try to keep them on fish oil pills and they eat Spots Stew (home made) with fresh veggies. It's only really bad at night, but I feel your pain. |
I have one that has allergies and we did all the blood testing, food elimination diet and could not determine what she is allergic to. We tried all sorts of medicine and finally she is on a pill once a day called Atopica which has stopped the intense scratching about 95%. It runs 60.00 a month. |
Glad Atopica worked for you - it did nothing for our boys. |
Thanks for responding. I have tried several different foods, detergents etc and no luck. I have been to the vet twice and he has given me pills which work but I sure would like to get her off the pills. I am also giving her the Omega 3 oil. Oh yea - we are in the middle of a deep freeze so I know it isn't grass (or not now anyway!) I am feeding her a natural lamb based food! I shall keep watch here - thanks again |
Allergies can be really elusive :(. What are you feeding exactly? Also, it can take up to 3 mths to see the true result of a new food. If it is not food, and is atopy - then it is beneficial to find an oil that contains not just EPA and DHA (the fish oil), but also GLA. The one I found that meets these criteria is Ark Naturals Royal coat - contains fish oil, borage oil, and Vits A/D/E. :) |
