Matted fur. Unlike many small dog owners I know, Benz loves clothes. I read somewhere that small dogs should have sweaters on most of the time, including at home, so because Benz likes them, why not? Benz also hates getting brushed, unlike most dogs. His fur is now matted and screams when i try to slowly comb through it, he screams even when the comb or brush (I have tried many) are not touching him. I don't want to get him shaved ( I am getting him shaved with a little mohawk in the summer) because it is so cold out. Any ideas on how to get his mats out? Thanks all! Amber & Benz:animal-pa |
combs work really well to get them out, or you can gently brush the matts out, or cut them out. whatever you do, do not bathe your baby with these matts- it will make them tighter and really hurt the skin. |
Yeah I would get a comb or a pin brush, some spray-in conditioner (or maybe even human conditioner - just make sure you've brushed everything out before you add water) and brush him out. He'll fight you but he'll eventually get used to it. After that, I would brush every day since he wears clothing so often. He hates it now but if you do it enough, he will get used to it. |
My Ralphie's fur matts up if I even just look at him wrong :rolleyes::rolleyes:. He has a cotton coat and HATES to be brushed. I mean it is a constant battle every time. He tries to bite the brush and just won't let me do it. I won't lie, it is mainly my fault for not being consistent enough with his brushing and a tiny bit his fault for being such a stinker :p:p. But, I did have to have him cut down really short twice and then start over (heartbreaking). You don't sound like you are as hopeless as me at grooming, ha ha, but I am sure if you are good with the brushing you will be okay. I like too keep my babies in sweaters and pajamas too by the way...they just look so darn cute and I know they are so much warmer. I think that some spray in conditioner, the right brush (like the ones that have been suggested) and regular grooming he will be just fine. Good luck :):):):):):) |
I use Cowboy Magic on really tuff mats, it's an equine product but is also safe for human and canine use. It's pretty amazing stuff, you only need to use a small amount and work it into the matted area, and the mats brush out much, much easier than when using a spray on detangler. Cowboy Magic |
