when will she go into heat? Hi, my puppy will be 7 months on the 27th of this month and i wanted to know when will she be going into heat? im not trying to mate her because i know that she's too young, just curious. |
Your girl could go into heat any time between now and about 12 months of age. |

Like the other 2 have said, she will probably go into heat any time now. With Sasha, I happened to notice her "area" swelled, but nothing else really changed with her. I've read from some sources that sometimes their behavior can change, like if they're normally very hyper, when they're in heat they'll be very calm/mellow and vice versa. I myself didn't expierence that part with Sasha though. |
I think a lot of it also depends on their size,from what I've been told. I'm hoping mine waits awhile, she just turned 7 mos and is a little over 2 lbs. I will have her spayed, but, waiting until she gets a little bigger |
Terri - as they said - swelling of the vulva. Mine get a little snippy at first (imagine that!) and then they get loving. Both of mine were trying to show dominance by "riding" each other or my male. You will need to get something for their bottoms. They will "spot bleed" but it's enough that it will cause staining on furniture, carpeting, etc. There are fabric diapers with velcro closures or you can get doggy diapers at Pet Smart. Depending on the size of your baby you can also purchase "baby diapers" and cut a hole for the tail. I use newborns for mine. If you don't keep her area clean, she will or your others will by licking it. It's normal so don't get grossed out. If you do keep a diaper on her I would suggest bathing the area often and drying it good to keep hair from matting and any type of bad bacteria away from that area. I hope this helps!!! |

Myah went into heat at 11 months. I noticed her "bottom" was swelled. She didn't have any behavior changes. I haven't gotten her spayed yet, as she is just 3lbs, and we are too scared to have her spayed at the country vet here. I'm currently trying to find a vet that has experience with tiny dogs. |
heat i havent noticed her area swollen, but she has been nipping at the kids and me on occasions and she has also been just sleeping and laying around. but i dont know if thats part of her going into heat. |

My Halle had her first heat at 9 months of age. I watched for signs checking her almost daily as I was very anxious for her first heat in anticipation of her second heat when we will be breeding her. Halle showed no nippiness or extra loving changes in her behavior when she had her cycle. You will surely notice that your females' nipples will become more prominent, her vulva will swell 2-3 times it's size, and how clean she keeps herself will be dependant on how much bleeding you will notice.
