anal glands + fibercon I have a 10 week year old yorkie boy who has a problem with his anal glands filling constantly. The vet suggested i try adding fibercon to his food. Has anyone tried this before and was it successful? if so, how much should i add to his food.. 1 teaspoon daily? |
Good question. Bumping up. |
How do you check and how can you tell if the anal gland is filled? My Maddie is a little over 4mos. old and i want to be inform of this. |
theres a few things to look for, from what i been reading. 1 is the puppy scooting on the floor (which could also be a sign of worms i read) and 2 if the puppy is constantly trying to get at his rear with his mouth or paws. if you look at his butt and it appears to be very swollen take him to the vet to be safe. |
Is the dog 10 weeks? or 10 years? I've never had an issue with any dog with the anal glands. But making the stool more solid is supposed to help the glands cler themselves. |
1O weeks is very young to have such a problem with the anal glands... it must be his food causing it unless the vet has used a latex glove to squeeze the glands ..this can cause irritation...causing more problems.. our little Oliver had this on going issue for years the vet would squeeze the glands internally and then finally ended up with infection..then it was anitbiotics and more antibiotics until we changed our thinking on the problem..change the food ..boost the immune system...and stop irritating the anal glands... a warm compress will express the glands naturally... cherries are a great treat and full of fiber ..as is a little treat of natural bran bread or a little apple ... we have learned that continual tampering with the anal glands causes more problems and they will eventually want to do surgery.. if u research there are many options for resolve of this problems... there is a book from Sandra lemire it was recommended to me by a YT member which helped us greatly on the matter ..Yorkies Head to Tail.. a great informative read for a yorkies owner :):animal-pa |
good info - makes sense that tampering with them will cause more problems. |
