Anyone make their own dog food??? Hi, My name is Crystal and I am thinking about making my own dog food. I was wondering if anyone else makes their own dog food, if you do could you tell me how much does it cost per week. My husband says it will cost too much to make the food myself, but I would really like to make it for my dogs. Thanks for your time and help. Crystal |
Well you can "home" cook or feed raw. Home cooking is definitely more complicated and time consuming than feeding raw. Look in health and diet and you'll find loads of information. |
I just started feeding raw and I don't find it pricey at all. |
Although some seem to find the price of homecooking comparable to that of dog food, I find it much more expensive. Ellie would wat about $75 in kibble a year whereas with homecooked it has to be $300-$400 and that isn't top-of-the-line ingredients. It is best to get a recipe from a nutritionist. |
Thanks for the help. I guess I will give making my own dog food a try, but in these hard times my babies might have to stick with store bought dog food....LOL. |
If you decide to home cook, you need to consult with a nutritionist to ensure your pup is getting the appropriate nutrients. A homecooked diet requires a supplement of vitamins and minerals to complete the meal, and it is extremely important to get calcium-phospherus (sp) ratios at the correct level. If you go prey-model raw, you need to lots of research as well. Good luck. |
