Help my baby is sick!! My 2yr. old yorkie Lexie is having some problems that the vets can not figure out...she has had a few knee problems with her knee popping in and out but for the last 2 wks she has taken a turn for the worse. When she walks she is very off balance(almost like she is drunk) very weak, wobbly walk and also she is shaking just when sitting...not like painfull shaking but just a sway? Also when she has to go to the bathroom she can not hold her self up she just has a sway to her balance. I think she has a neurological problem but they ran a blood test and 2 x-rays and found nothing...what do I do next?? I am very scared that I am not doing all I can because the dr. dont know what to do. Again she is only 2 so I am worried. Any ideas would be great. THANKS!!! |
You should take an appointment with a specialist for her . |
She sounds extremely neurologic. She needs to see a neurologist at this point. Good luck with your baby! |
What type of blood test did she have? What you mentioned are symptoms of liver shunt. |
Welcome to Yt. I am so sorry your baby is not doing well. I would definitely see a specialist. I'm not sure with St. Louis are a vet schools - is there an excellent one near there? If so that may be the way to go. |
I know she had a complete blood work done, but I have been reading that I should have a Bile acid test (BAT) done. I am going to call tomorrow and get some answers. THANKS!! |

She may have bumped her head without you knowing. Anything can happen. I pray your baby gets well. |
she definitely needs to go see a specialist, either neurology or internal medicine. they will be able to help her more then your RDVM. please get a referral. |
I am so sorry to hear your baby is so sick. My goodness what a nightmare. Is she eating have they given her and liquid calcium or at the very least Kero syrup to keep her sugar levels up. I have to agree with everyone else your baby definitly needs to see a specialist ASAP One of my girls Madison was playing on my bed and feel off and hit her head. She went into a seizure and I had never in all my years dealt with that before. I immediately gave her some kero syrup and calcionate syrup and just kept her wrapped in a blanket until she stop seizuring. Now it happens every now and again and believe me it is just as scary as the first time. Wishing you and your baby all the best. |
It is not a siezue, its more of just a constant sway in her balance. She is otherwise acting normal, she is also eating just fine. Thanks for all your answers. I will be getting her a BET test first thing in the morning, and will go from there. My husband and I love her very much and will do anything we can to help her. Anymore ideas are welcome. Thanks Again!! |
I would ask for the name of a specialist too. |
I agree with the reast of the posters. Your little one needs to see A specialist and have further , intensive tests performed. It is not normal to be off balance and swaying. Best wishes to you and your baby. :aimeeyork |
