I am new here, my pup is around 11 months old just got her period, she has been vomiting a little and her stool is soft, but seems fine, I was terrified to get her spayed because she's only a little over 3lbs can anyone reassure me, or tell me what to excpect? How long will her period last? thanks!:animal-pa |
The bleeding in small dogs is usually minimal. She will be in heat for about a month but will only bleed for a couple of weeks. Keep er away from all male dogs for a minimum of 30 days. |
thanks thanks, so her behavior is normal? she's never been very food motivated and doesn't seem to hungry I made her some white rice, and gave her the special food that's like babyfood... |
I agree with you on giving her gentle foods until she feels a little better. |
I was just wondering if the first heat was the toughest, does this get easier each time, or do they always experience some discomfort. I thought I read this, but wasn't sure. |
She actually just threw up again it was yellowy green and has diarhhea...Is this normal for when they are in heat? she's such a little pitzel! ;( |
I would be concerned with dehydration if she's vomiting and has diarrhea, is she drinking water? Can you tempt her with a little chicken broth? One of the signs of dehydration is when you pick them up by the nape of the neck the area will kind of sticks together. This is a very serous sign, and the animal should be on the way to a vet at this point for fluid injection. I think if she's drinking water, you need not worry. |
thanks ;)) |
I don't believe that the "being in heat" and the throwing up are related. Be sure she is drinking for sure. Hopefully she will eat a little something. After she quits bleeding you will have at least two weeks of her drawing males. The last heat Daisy had we had dogs scratching on our door in the middle of the night. It was very creepy. I'm glad I wasn't home alone. She couldn't even go outside potty. The guys would come around and make her scared. Anita |
I'm in nyc , so I either carry her or keep her on a leash at all times... I am going to take her to a vet I am looking foe someone who specializes in small dogs... in la that was not hard to find... |

on my way to vet... no it's not the norm... i'm a mess... |
OP is on her way to the vet. Her pup is still throwing up and diarhhea. She actually had salmonella poisening last week and is worried her pup may have contracted it from her. Nancy- I'd like to know the correct answer to that question as well. I would *think* it would get easier on them, but I have no clue. Can someone answer this? |
Yeah maybe this question should have been posted in the breeder's forum. So many of us have dogs that have be spayed. |
