Carnivores eat protein, carbohydrate, and fat - usually all in the same meal. So do omnivores. Almost ALL individual foods are made up of more than one of the components above. Each of those components require certain enzymes and varying stomach pH. The stomach is a dynamic organ and can adjust its acidity as needed to break down any individual component (or subsequent components within the same meal). This is a chemical process. Digestion is a science, not an art of food combining. :) |
you can feed raw and leave kibble down if needed. they both can be fed at the same time with no problems. think of it this way. Sushi! sushi is raw fish, rice, seaweed, and veggies all in one. omnivores or carnivores, people and dogs can both eat this things at the same time with no problem. |

Think of Black Beans - they are ONE food made up of proteins, carbs, and fat. If the stomach was so unsophisticated that it could not digest a black bean, then how on earth are all these black beans being digested? Divine intervention? :p The stomach is much more sophisticated than many think -- and there are plenty of in/out studies that show exactly what is digested. The stomach wasn't designed to *only* digest single-component meals, like only protein or only carb. |

To Lauren, I understand your frustration about researching the raw. Unfortunately, there is very little scientific research about feeing raw. To truly understand, you need to back up and study the physiology of the dog. Most of the literature written about raw specifically is opinion. By understanding the actual "nuts and bolts" of the dog, you will be able to make your educated decision of what to feed. |
