Royal Canin & itching? I thought I read on here about some yorkies experiencing itching while feeding Royal Canin. My babies are only 6 weeks old so they haven't been on RC for long but they are scratching quite often with no evidence of fleas. The vet told us just to monitor it for now but I'm thinking it's time to start researching other foods for them. I prefer kibble. Anyone have recommendations? They are young, so when should I start to change their food? |

Krissy is almost 4 months but just know getting really good about eating her hard food. SHe came to us on RC. She has been itching lately and even has a rash between her shoulders on her back. We are in the process of going to something without the corn but haven't found anything she likes as well as the RC. |

Where are the pups scratching? At this age, it is very unlikey a food allergy. Certain types of RC have made many Yorkies (mine included) very itchy though. |

They are scratching around their head and neck. Their skin looks fine, though. By the way, they eat the RC very well...no problems there. :) |

I've read that grains can cause allergies. I've got my 10 month old on Orijen Dry and he is doing amazing. It is a grain free food. High protein with fruits and herbs and probiotics. You can go to "dogfoodanaylsis.com". They rate dog foods there. When I bought my puppy he was on Eukanuba and I switched him to Wellness and he had loose stools and a bit of diarrhea that persisted. When we switched him to Orijen his stools returned to normal within 3 days. |

My little girl was on RC and she scratched and was itchy all the time. I would be up with her at night trying do comfort her. I took to the vet and he put her on meds and she still scratched. My mom brought her oatmeal for her to bathe in, and it help for a while (for a hour) then she went back to scratching, I was on this site oneday and people was talking about RC and I new then that's what is was and that same day I took her off RC and she is fine. If I was you I would consider stoping the RC. ASP. I give her Natural Balance. |

Ellie May, they've been to the vet and they got a clean bill of health. I was hoping that maybe their hair was tickling them and that was causing them to scratch but the scratching has increased a bit. I don't know really. I just don't want them to be uncomfortable. :( |

The CORN in RC made my little guy have dry skin and itch like crazy. |

That's interesting, mine are on RC and they have never had any problems. There is also the theory that overvaccinating can cause the food allergies. I do not vaccinate until they are 9 weeks. Too much vaccinating ruins their immune system and the develop an auto immune reaction. So if you started their vaccinations at 6 weeks, that could be what triggered the allergic reaction. |

At only six weeks old, they are too young to have had a chance to build up antibodies against any ingredients so it's not allergies. With that said, RC contains corn which is one of the top three allergy causing ingredients in dogs. I'd start them on a better food and recommend it to their new owners so they won't have problems later on. |

Same Problem here Mia is always scratching. She is also on RC I keep debating if I should change the food and if I do to what? She just started eating it well now I'm afraid to change it too. She is only 4 months and 4 lbs. What is the best food? |

Please, try stoping the RC and you will see a big change. I was so made at myself for giving my little girl RC and finding out that was what was causing her to scratch so much. it won't hurt to stop the RC and see that is causing your babies to scratch. Fantasia is on the Natural Balance. |

Thanks for your advice! We are going to go get some grain free kibble tomorrow night. I think we're going to try Nature's Variety Instinct. |
