How much to feed if they're getting treats? I feed my four NV Raw and NV Instinct kibble/canned. NV offers a good feeding guideline but I don't know how to factor in the treats so that I don't overfeed. Our usual treats are bully sticks, flossies or Sam's Yam's which they get once or twice per week. Should I be feeding them less on the days they get a treat? If so, by how much? Oh, they weigh 8#, 7#, 6# and 4#. |
Ya know, I've also thought about this previously. And I decided not to really count treats, as long as their bodies feel correctly conditioned. If they were starting to put on a bit too much weight, then I'd start to feed a bit less on days I give larger treats. :) |

I would definitely just feed them what you have been as long as they don't seem overweight or anything. If you are worried about their weight, I would cut back on the treats first, then food. Also, our trainer told us that we should use treats that are easily breakable and only give a tiny piece. She said they don't need a whole lot to get the point... just enough for a taste. :) So maybe, just cut the treats in pieces instead of giving a whole one, especially if you are using it for training and going to be giving a lot. |
