Snotty Nose: Baby Booger-Sucker? Nikko is battling kennel cough with the help of a vicks-filled vaporizer, and I think he's really starting to get a lot better - he's definitely coughing less than he was. However, his nose now sounds like it's almost totally stopped up - he snores, snorts when he sniffs around or eats or almost any activity, and sprays snot on us when he's excited and giving us kisses. It sounds like if I just used one of those baby booger-sucker thingies on him, he's feel (and sound!) a lot better. I called my vet and asked if there was anything we could do for him, and she actually suggested the booger-sucker tool! She just said to keep it right at the entrance of his nostrils, and be careful to not stick it up in his fragile little teeny nose, just to be safe. Has anyone ever used a booger-sucker on their dog? Did it work? Do you think it's safe??? I think I'm going to go buy one today and try it, unless some of you guys on here tell me it's a bad idea... I'm also open to other suggestions on how to help his snotty nose! Thank you! Lauren & Nikko |
If the vet suggested it as being ok I would go for it. I've used it on my skin kids and they got relief why not our pups |
I did actually try it... the vet warned to not stick the end "in" his nostrils, so I didn't... besides, the end was probably a bit to big to stick in there anyways. I tried to position it like a suction vaccuum at the entrance (he held really nice and still for it, probably because he was happy to be sniffing something new and exciting). But it really didn't work, I don't think. Oh well, the sniffling and coughing seem to keep getting better on their own every day - well not exactly on their own, we use a vicks filled vaporizor with him whenever he naps. But still, I'm not too worried. :-) Lauren & Nikko |
