Firm poo, turns soft as day goes on.... Ok, history: Had pup for a month now. Got him from a GREAT breeder, i have kept him on Chicken Soup for Soul food. He loves it. 2 weeks ago he had a bout w/ the runs for a few days, i was concerned so i took him to the vet and all checked out fine and it got better. I've noticed too that in the morning (first poo of the day) it's firm and look good. After he eats in the morning, his poo is soft, at lunch it's softer and again after dinner. It's not diaherra, just not firm and it's VERY soft. My question is could it be IBS? What are the signs of it and how does the vet test for it? He is my second Yorkie and i have to say, i have never seen another dog poo as much as him. He can go 4-5 times a day... I thought about switching his food to see if that helps, but since that is the only sign, and he loves his food i didn't know what others have experienced....Please advise...;) |
My dogs had loose stool for a long while. It finally stopped when, at the vet's rec, I started to feed them dry dog. In addition, you might want to ask your vet about Pepto Bismo. Mine let's me give them a little bit in a syringe every three hours. It really helps when they get the runs. |
Wow, weird... this is happening with my puppy too, and he's also on Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lover! Not that I necessarily think the food is the culprit, but I really have no idea. My pup has had a tough time with some intestinal parasites, but we think he's about over it hopefully - we've been insanely diligent with cleaning, bleaching, and the meds. And his stools are looking a lot better... But, like you, first poo of the day is best - almost normal looking. 2nd is wetter, and less formed. Third varies between "less formed" and "soft serve." Any after that are soft serve very stinky chocolate mousse. And there are always at least 3 poos a day - it's not uncommon to get 4 or 5. And not tiny poops either! I'd love to hear other opinions on what could be causing this... is it the food? An allergy? I know there's a pretty broad variety of ingredients in the Chicken Soup brand. Is holding the poo overnight causing some of the liquid in it to be re-absorbed in the intestines so the first poo of the day is more dry than the others? LOL, what's up!?! Lauren & Nikko |
Just not sure WOW, I'm not alone here. I didn't think so. I hope someone chimes in with some suggestions or possibilities. I don't want to give Pepto or Keao b/c that woudl be "masking" an issue if there is one:cool: |
Definately put him on a probiotic. I also might honestly consider switching foods as well. Maybe there is something that just doesn't agree with him in it. |
I was thinking of switching his food, but didn't considering he was on this when we got him and it was all fine up until a couple weeks ago.....maybe something changed in him and i will go ahead and try that. Thanks for the suggestion |
