Deworming Choices I just got my 4 months old puppy from the breeder two weeks ago. The breeder had already dewormed him once. Should I have him dewormed (I know most vets do it again). Or should I just leave it as is and just start him on heartworm medication like Interceptor now? |
I don't know for sure what the best way to do it is, but here's what my vet told me: If the puppy's stools look good and you get a fecal exam and it comes back negative, go ahead and start interceptor or whatever - no need to de-worm if there are no worms or parasites!. If it comes back positive for something, hold off starting the interceptor, and get ready for poop to rule your life for awhile until your dog's healthy again. then start the interceptor. :-) Lauren & Nikko |
If you're worried he has worms, I would take a stool sample in to the vet. Signs of worms are butt scooting, pot belly, and of course, actually seeing them. However, if you have no reason to suspect otherwise, I would go ahead an start Interceptor although I would check with your vet first and see what he thinks. Interceptor worms for a couple different types of worms anyway. |
