What kind of oil and how much? I posted a question on here a while back about my girl's coat. Well thanks to you all, I have changed her diet to an all meat 6 star dog food and her coat is looking better than ever. But, in my discussion someone mentioned that I should use some oil when I bathe her. What kind of oil and how do you recommend I do this? Pour it right on? Dilute it? How much? Or, did I read this way wrong? :aimeeyork |
I don't think it is an oil that you "pour on", but more of a product that you rub on your hands and then on the dog..... Isn't it AMAZING what a good dog food will do for a dogs coat. I think it can make all the difference!! |
I use Plush Puppy seabreeze oil just a tiny bit. Too much and it makes their coat oily looking |

My little guy has a very dull fur, if you don't mind me asking ... what dog food did you change your girl to? |
Yorkiemom08, someone recommended this site for dog food and it is was very helpful Dog Food Reviews - All Products - Powered by ReviewPost In my area it was hard to find many of the 6 star foods listed on that site, but I did find the Taste of the Wild brand, and I think it is the wetlands formula, so that is what I switched to. I am actually feeding less of it too. Her coat is getting thicker, and more shine to it every day, and I am seeing less breakage too. I also give her the fish oil tablets too. Anyways, you can look up what you are feeding now, and see how it is rated. I was surprised that the food I was told to feed by my vet was rated so low. |
I use the Chris Christensen Silk Spirits on my girls. Just rub a little into your palms and then work into the coat. This can be done when wet following a back, or in-between baths on a dry coat as well!!! |

The fish oil tablets were originally from my vet. Then I found them at the pet store. Same thing, just different brand. I don't remember the brand, but they are a capsule filled with the oil (sorry, I am at work so I don't have it readily handy to tell you). They will say essential fatty oil, like Omega 3 and 6. And the bottle I am using now also has Vit. E. You should find them with any other dog supplements. So, anything like that would work as there are several to choose from, and you will want to read the label because they make them in different sizes for the size of the dog. My vet did tell me that I couln't overdose with it though. And for two weeks, he had me double the dose, then go to the one a day. I don't have to disguise this either, my dog thinks it is a treat and just gobbles it up, capsule and all. She just chews it. I make her stay on a rug though because sometimes she wants to play with it and I don't want that oil all over my house because it does smell fishy. |
Here ya go, this is what I am giving now. Lipiderm Healthy Skin and Coat Gel Capsules - Health Care - Dog - PetSmart |
