Need some help about brushing my dogs teeth! :animal-pa Here it goes I got a problem with my Yorkie nothing serious but i need your opinions, it's all about brushing his teeth! I need some advice guys? I used to brush his teeth every night so whenever i started brushing his teeth he keeps on switching his head wherever he wants and that probably means he don't want me to brush his teeth or maybe his uncomfortable about it!? So what should or must i do about it? I got him for just 1 week now but so far I'm impressed about him. He's a quick learner! for just 4 - 5 days he learned housebreaking! but still making mistakes sometimes but not too often very sometimes.:D That's why I'm proud of my Gucci :animal36 arf! arf! Thanks!! |
That's a little much everyday brushing his teeth 2-3 times a week is good If he's a puppy his mouth is very tiny make sure the finger brush you're using is small enough also the toothpaste you're using is it for dogs? They usually like the taste of that Mine jump when they see the tube come out and finally be careful of the force you're brushing with their gums and lips are very sensitive and if you're pressing hard it maybe uncomfortable |
I totally disagree. You can't brush too much. Yorkies are notorious for having bad teeth. If you only had him a week you can't expect him to be used to it yet. Just be firm and let him know you will do it no matter what. The longer you can prevent tarter buildup the less they will have to be put under for teeth cleaning |
i think so to,we work on bailees daily and she loves it,but the rest of advice the first poster gave is correct!! |
Congratulations on your new baby. I use C.E.T. brand toothpaste and mouth rinse in poultry flavoring. My babies all love having their teeth brushed but they do wiggle their heads around as I brush their teeth. IMO they are trying to chew on the toothbrush but I'm always moving it so they move their heads to get a better grip on the brush.:D I have found some very tiny tooth brushes at my vets. I've looked for small ones on-line but I haven't found any. Need to find out what brand the toothbrushes are and maybe look for them on the net. I do brush their teeth every night and none of my 4 have had to have a dental since I started being very faithful. Along with brushing their teeth every night, I use a flea comb to clean the gunk from their eyes, wash their little faces, and comb/brush the tangles from their hair. It is a routine I follow every night and they have become used to it. They all stand looking at me in expectation until I put them on the counter and do the routine.:D:D:D: I have learned all of this info from YT. Thanks YT!!! |

I just started brushing my dog's teeth. His former owner claims she brushed his teeth a few times a week, but I have my doubts. I read how to brush his teeth on another YT thread: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...g-s-teeth.html I wish I could say Thor loved getting his teeth brushed. It's been something of an ordeal so far. I'm hoping he will hate it less as time passes. I give him a nice treat afterwards, which probably undoes most of the teeth brushing. He's so tiny though, I would really like to avoid a teeth cleaning that requires anesthesia. I got a toothbrush with two ends, one for a normal size dog, and one for "precision brushing", I guess. I use the small end. How can you tell if you are being too rough? |
My 2 fight it so much that I resorted to putting the paste on the brush and letting them chew on the brush themselves. It's better than nothing. Roxy has beautiful white teeth - Remi, tho, isn't a very good chewer. His teeth aren't as white. I wish they liked it. Good luck. |
I recently got the little fingertip tooth brushes, and I love them. I feel like I have much better control over the process. Oh hey, I'm from Chandler too! |
I told my vet that I was brushing Missy's teeth daily and her exact words were..."that's FANTASTIC". I would stick with the daily brushing  |

Thanks for the info you really helped me out too. I'll have to try the flea comb. I had not thought of that one! |
