My baby Cookie seems to be flaking! Hey guys! I've started to notice about a month and a half ago that my baby Cookie seems to be flaking near the back of her neck and back. It's weird because some days appear to be worse than other days. I'm not sure if it's because she's not used to the weather (it's very cold and snowy here in Edmonton, Canada and we let her out about 3 times a day for a few minutes to go potty), or if it's because we bathe her too often (normally only once every 6 weeks or so), or if it could be other reasons we're not sure of. It doesn't seem to be too severe or anything but i notice that sometimes she sits on the floor and scratches herself. I have taken a few pictures from a few days ago of her flaking, but today doesn't seem as bad as a few days ago. I'm just curious if anyone has the same issues with their pups? Any tips as to what I can do to help it? Thanks so much! :animal36 Tammy. http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a93...m/IMG_2231.jpg http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a93...m/IMG_2228.jpg http://http://i9.photobucket.com/alb...m/IMG_2229.jpg |

Yorkie's skin is very sensitive I wouldn't be surprised if it's the dry heated air during the winter But make sure you're using only products formulated for dogs when you clean him Anything for humans is much too strong |
My Cordy did the very same thing shortly after he came home. I have no idea what caused it, but I combed him through and through daily, and we worked on his diet for the longest before he finally started to look like his skin was going to stay on his body! I think it was a combination of a poor diet and human shampoos.... We bought a medicated shampoo, and helped his diet come around, nad now he's as perfect as a yorkie can be! :) |
I went thru the same thing with my Harry's first winter,I was talking to a yorkie breeder during a show here in NJ and she told me that she could recomend lots of expensive shampoos but she uses Petco Brand oatmeal Medicated shampoo, followed with Hot spot soothing treatment, which is a very good conditioner right after the shampoo and then in between shampoos she uses soothing anti-itch spray and I have to say that her dogs looked awsome, and now I am using those products on my 2 yorkies and 1 silky and LOVE IT.. they are a good price and the results are great. hugs, cARmen in nj:animal-pa |
