Recommend dry food for dog with allergies.. What foods do you use for itchy dogs? Tried lots, allergy testing, elimination diet..just curious what works for you. Thanks! |
What were the results of the allergy testing and elimination diet? It's hard to recommend a food without knowing that. Are you sure you are dealing with food allergies? Inhalant allergies are much more common than food allergies. |
did the blood test for allergies..my vet said the food portion is not as reliable as the environmental one. She is allergic to pretty much everything you can think of..dust, trees, grass, wool, feathers, etc. etc. etc...as far as food goes, it said poultry, soy, oats, eggs, barley, corn, flax...she did ok on elimination diet, but never really quiets down due to environmental stuff..it has been super hard and frustrating... |
Wow, that poor baby is allergic to a lot of things. Does she take medication? Lady gets 1/4 Zyrtec per my vet. Your girl might be a candidate for allergy shots. I know a few people who have had such allergic dogs they had to start shots. Did your vet mention allergy shots? As far as food, you'll have to find one that doesn't have any of the ingredients she is allergic to. You'll also have to keep rotating foods so she won't become allergic to new protein and carb sources. I'd probably start with a Duck and Potato if you can find one without the other ingredients she is allergic too. Homecooking might be a good option. |
Hmm, why did the vet tell you that blood allergy testing for food isn't very accurate and then do it anyway? Most allergy testing for food isn't worth it. You can get false positives and false negatives. The best way to figure out allergies is to do an elimination diet. Since she does have such severe environmental allergies, that would be my focus. There are drugs like Atopica that might work. Then if she is still having issues I'd play with the food. With all the environmental allergies she does have, it may not do much good to start switching around food because you don't know exactly what is triggering her issues. |
