Male 11 month yorkie wont eat I have a 11 month old Male Yorkshire Terrier. About a month ago I brought a female Yorkshire Terrier into our home as a companion for him. Recently I have noticed that he is not eating hardly much at all. I have attempted changing the diet, and putting him and his food into a separate room so that he will eat it. Due to the fact he is easily distracted and wants to play. However, he wont eat unless he is starving. In the past month he has lost a pound, for a 4-5 pound dog that is a considerable amount of weight. You can feel his ribs. I took him to the vet yesterday and had a fecal test, negative, no worms. Does anyone have any suggestions, what should I do. Maybe you should try to add a little bit of wet food to his food, or something extra tasty!? he might be a little bit stressed out with a new addition? |
How old is the female? Any chance she's in heat? Males will stop eating when there's a female in heat....their mind is on other things. ;) |
Is he drinking? Are his poos okay - as in firm, normal? Is he lethargic or anything? Any vomiting? I mean, it could be bc of what Deb said - if he is not altered. But if he's really lost his appetite, that's concerning - bc dogs don't do that unless they're sick, usually (or, what Deb said). Have you switched foods on him or anything? Do you want to try another one to see if it's just due to boredom? Or, you could add some canned to his kibble, what about that? :) |
A vet told me back in 1971 when i got my first yorkie pup to give him a tablespoon of goat milk twice a day until six months old.Goat milk does not cause any problems with yorkies like cow milk does. Since than i have had many yorkies over the years and have always given them a little goat milk it's excellant for them and i have given it to adults that were underweight or stopped eating and it always did the trick.I buy it at safeway or if you don't have a safeway a health food store should have it. And if i had a picky eater i would mix some goat milk in and that would get them to eat.Sounds strange but it always worked for my yorkies, but i would always take them to vet first to make sure that some illness wasn't causing them to stop eating. |
Well she was in heat. During her heat, I left him at my parents house for 3 weeks so that they wouldn't breed yet. She is not old enough to begin breeding. He has not been fixed obviously. However, I notice that he is really "horney" for a lack of better words. All he wants to do is hump his toys if not her. She doesn't want anything to do with him sexually now since she is not in heat anymore. I did switch his food yesterday from science diet to royal canine as per reading the fact that they tend to get bored. I mixed the new with the old food. He ate most of that, however that was at 1pm yesterday. He has not eaten and has even refused eating treats since this I brought him home. My parents also said he didn't want to eat much there. Just wanted to play. You can feel his bones and I am a little worried. However, he hasn't lost the need to want to hump his toys. |
