help with what food to try or where to get samples
 

I have tried so many foods and end up having to take them back. Vet gave her L/D, science diet puppy canned, and purina NF. I've tried iams puppy kibbles, and now Royal canin puppy. She will eat it for a little bit (maybe one or two times) and then she doesn't like it. It is driving me crazy. Now I'm looking for samples so I can figure out what she is going to like.

This is a great list... I sent an email to at least six of them, and got samples back from every single one. I ended up going with Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lovers Soul because my puppy likes it and it's actually sold at a pet store near us. In the email be sure to tell them how old your dog is, and what breed, and they will all send you samples of whatever food they sell that is best for your pup.

if you can't wait for mail what i did was went to local animal feed store ... they had tons of free samples of every type of brands..good luck on your search..i know its not easy .. i have a 9 yr old that has tried every kibble imaginable .. smiles ..she's now settled in with "eukanuba" for yorkies brand :)

you might want to try a wet food- they are "smellier" and dogs tend to like it better- some great brands are Wellness and Merricks. They come in both canned and kibble in case you wanted to do both.

Chester does very well on solid gold, the solid gold puppy food is rated high. I wished I had known about it when chester was a puppy.

December 14th, 2008. This morning, the CTCA's Rescue Liaison, Maria Whittle, passed on this important alert about a premium dog food used by many Coton de Tulear owners:


Solid Gold Voluntary Recall - Turkey, Ocean Fish, Carrot, & Sweet Potatoes Formula


Turkey, Ocean Fish, Carrot, & Sweet Potatoes Formula Canned Dog Food 13.2 oz Cans - POP-TOP CANS ONLY WITH A 'USE BY DATE 01/02/2010' located on the bottom of can


A limited production of this Turkey canned food was made with the POP-TOP, and none of the product was distributed in any of the following states: Arizona, California, Nevada, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Hawaii, or Alaska.


Solid Gold has received several complaints regarding mold found in a batch of 13.2 oz canned Turkey, Ocean Fish, Carrot, & Sweet Potatoes Formula, with Pop-Tops. As a precautionary measure, they ask that you return any of this product with the 'Use By Date 01/02/2010'; you will find these numbers on the bottom of the cans.

This recall appears on Graigslist on December 12th. We have been unable to confirm this voluntary recall on the Solid Gold website this morning, December 14th. However, we note that this is the second recall attributed to mold involving Solid Gold pet foods this Fall. In October, Solid G old issued the following warning:


Tiny Tots Dog Treat Voluntary Product Withdrawal
October 13, 2008


Due to some instances of mold growth in a single batch of Tiny Tots, we have decided to voluntarily withdraw the entire production run from the market. We would like to assure our customers that there have been no reported serious health effects on dogs that have consumed Tiny Tots from this batch.


If you have a bag of Tiny Tots with a Best Before date of April 2009, please return it to your retail store for a full refund. No other batches of Tiny Tots or any of our other jerky treats are affected.

A member on another forum called Solid Gold and they confirmed the recall.

Saw that your dog had been put on NF and L/D by your vet-- has she got liver problems? If so, that will put some restrictions on the type of foods that she can safely eat... I'd be extra super careful about changing her diet around if that is the case, and double check with your vet before trying any new foods on her. A lot of the premium pet foods out there are nutritionally the exact opposite of what a dog with liver problems needs!

I use Solid Gold as well, just the dry though not the canned. I've never used canned with Sasha. She absolutely LOVES the Solid Gold food. I used to feed her Nutro but decided to switch. As I was gradually mixing the Solid Gold in with the Nutro, I began to notice her actually eating around the Nutro which I found quite amuzing. Smart little dog haha. Good luck with your search!

OMG!! Thnaks for the info. I use Solid Gold and Blue Buffalo, but only the dry, thank goodness.
