He is very energetic and loves to play. Eventually they will eat on their own but for now it's best to feed him with the syringe. I mix blended puppy food plus the baby food and feed 25-30ml. Depending on her size it can be more or less. |
WHere do you get the syringe to use and do you stick it in the back of the throat or what please explain a little better?? |
Is she gaining weight? Peeing and pooing quite a few times a day? Be careful about giving treats they are tiny and get filled up quickly. Her tummy is tiny. As long as she is gaining weight I think the syringe is too drastic and will scare her. When I had puppies I always kept food out so they could eat when hungry it was always just a few bites at a time. If you ever had to use a syringe it should go in the cheek never straight in the throat it will elicit the gag response and could get fluid in the lungs. Good luck with your furbaby. |
You could try some canned puppy food. Make sure you are using a high quality food. Be very careful if using a syringe, you can cause more problems if you don't know what you are doing Get some nutrical or Karo syrup, it will help if the puppy gets hypoglycemia. It also help to stimulate appetite. |
the karo syrup saved my baby a couple of times, they just forget to eat because they wanna be playing around, we would hand feed him some boiled chicken and soft dog food, |
puppy won't eat That is horrible that the puppy has fleas, poor thing. Stupid breeder. You could try making puppy mash as I do for my 5 week old pups. I use Royal Cainin Puppy 33 pour boiling water over it. Let it sit. It will puff up when cooled then I either had mash it (like mashed potatoes with a fork) or put it in a food grinder. Then she can put a bit on the tip of her pinky finger ( not too much) if the puppy will not lick it off her finger she can open it's mouth and put a tiny bit in and see if the puppy will swallow it. I would also give the pup a stuffed animal (one that can be discarded due to fleas or washed) I hope puppy is fine soon. Also encourage it to drink. Watered down evaporated milk is good. Again just putting some on the finger first to the puppies mouth. |
Oh NO not the breeders fault my friends fault the breeder is great but my friend other dogs had fleas and gave it to baby.. to look at her house it is spotless.. anyway not blaming anyone jsut trying to get baby to eat and unless you have words to help and not to blame please dont reply .... thanks for all the help .. I have 6 yorkies of my own and have already tryed most of these things... Thanks for all the help.. |
Brodi mom, My new puppy eats Pedigree Puppy food. It comes in cans, but I get the little pouches of chunky because my pup loves it! You can get it at Walmart and most grocery stores. You should try it! And never put a syringe into back of pups throat - that would be very dangerous. If you ever decide to do a syringe, just stick in in his mouth from the side, and not too far - just in a little, and slowly - a little at a time, put food in cheek. I really don't think you will need to use the syringe. The puppy will eat before she lets herself starve to death - just keep trying to find something she likes. Try the Pedigree pouches. Good luck with your little one!!! |

I open his mouth with my fingers and place it at the back/side of his mouth. He never gags but doesn't like it too much. However I know he is fed and will never be sick. He threw up bile one day because he hadn't eaten enough so now this is how I feed him till he is 3months old. |
Brodi mom, Just don't stick it in his mouth very far - just barely, cuz you don't want him to gag. I still would try other foods first. good luck. |
Syringe Disposable irrigation SYRINGE 60cc. New, Five unit/bag - eBay (item 180312116562 end time Jan-05-09 12:48:50 PST) The one I got looks just like these... BTW peanut butter in the top of her mouth will also give temporary calories and is high in fat. All these tips I have gotten from my breeder. |
As a baby my Tiki wasn't interested in eating much, until I started adding finely diced boild chicken or cottage cheese to her regular dog food. I've never seen a dog turn down chicken. Oh, she also had fleas early on, and ended up with tapeworms from eating them. So watch out for that next. |
white rice chester loves it just add a little water so its not to dry. |
