Parvo I have only taken Baxter to the vet once. He is 2 months old, and I am potty training him outside. I just looked up the parvo disease, and I'm wondering if I should be letting him use the outdoors since he hasn't had all of his shots yet. He is my very first puppy, and I have researched a lot for him, and I hate to sound so naive. But in truth, I really don't know much about little puppies. Thanks in advance! ~Angela |
Reading about Parvo freaked me out too since my puppy isn't fully vaccinated yet either! I asked my vet this very same question, but she said that as long as we just go out for potty breaks (no walks), and it's in our yard (even though it's not fenced in), it's fine. She said specifically to avoid dog parks, definitely. I'm still a little scared, but we go outside anyways for SHORT potty sessions only, and try to burn off his energy with little games in the kitchen indoors. I'd like to hear others' opinions on this as well! Lauren & Nikko |
As long as you have not had a dog with Parvo in your yard in the last 6-10 years, your dog should be fine. It can live in the yard for a long time. I don't let any of my dogs out side until they have had at least 2 sets of shots and the little ones don't get to go outside until they have had 3 sets. We had a foster litter of parvo dogs before so I take extra precautions, even when guest come over. My motto is be safe rather than sorry. |
I think your yard is fine. In all honesty, I wouldn't take him outside at all but since you are training outside, it's kind of a necessity. I am extra cautious because Franklin got parvo and we never took him outside. It's such a tough thing to avoid. |
Well, the thing is, I live in an apartment complex; I don't have a yard. That's why I was so worried about this disease, because he is getting exposed to other people's dogs. I have no idea if they have it or not. I'm so worried now. And plus, I don't take Baxter back to the vet until December 31. I don't want to keep him cooped up inside. He absolutely loves being outside, and he's already learning to pee/poop outside. He'll scratch on my door when he needs to go out. So, still think I should let him out? I do have pee pads, and he'll pee on them, he just won't poop on them. Lol. |

I honestly don't know what to tell you. Maybe you can talk to the vet? I think at this point it's your decision about what you think is best. How many rounds of shots has he had? If he's had at least two he might be okay.... |
