Help with what to do with picky eater Started on iams then soft science diet then ld only eating every now and then goes days without unless hand feed or force her. What is best to feed 9 months old. Want to put on dry food if possible |
Dogs like smelly food, so anything you can do to make it smellier is good. Try heating it, mixing it with a bit of chicken broth, or putting a little bit of garlic in it. You can also mix the food with some egg or yogurt. Do you feed her snacks throughout the day? I would worry about a puppy not eating for days at a time. You might also try getting her a kong or a treat ball and putting some more interesting food in it mixed with the standard dog food. The combination of the tastier food and the challenge of it might make her more interested in food in general. I just discovered this kong stuffin that is concentrated liver paste. I can't give my guy too much, or it will upset his stomach, but he will spend an hour licking the inside of a kong. He put on a couple ounces over the course of four days. And he's 3 lbs, so that's pretty incredible! |
It is going to be more difficult to get a liver compromised dog to eat and I would say with shaking and picky eating with mildly elevated bile acids, there is a liver problem here most likely. I would force feed canned L/D or try Royal Canin LS 14 kibble because it is palatable to so many dogs. Be careful about adding foods to get her to eat because a lot of them aren't safe for liver compromised dogs. You could try mixing her L/D kibble with something like Stonyfield yogurt but I highly doubt that will entice her very much. |
What about royal canin puppy 33 She is eating the sample I got her. She has had coccidia, ear mites, bile acid test premeal 11.4 post meal 33.8, and yeast infection on skin. Also a little malnurished. Got rid of mites, coccidia working on the yeast but getting better. Let me know what you think |
Regular puppy foods are too high in protein and not the right kind anyway to feed to a liver compromised dog. Have you tried canned or the prescription Royal Canin? It would be so much better for her if she does have a liver issue. |
Don't be surprised if she eats the RC puppy 33 one or two times and then refuses it if she really does have a liver problem...If the vets truly suspect liver problems, then vegetarian protein is best for her. Maybe you could try Natural Balance Vegetarian?? |
that is exactly what she did I'll try what you recommended and she if I can get some samples. Thanks so much |
I hear that garlic is deathly for dogs??? |
