3 Month old weighs 1lb 14oz is that ok?? Or too small?
 
My boy is about to be 3 months in a week. and only weighs 1lb & 14oz.
Is that an ok size for his age. Or is that too small.
I think i want to get some more weight on him. What would be the best way to do that.:animal36

Did you get an estimated weight from his breeder? How big is his parents and past litters? When you look at the Yorkie puppy weight chart at Yorkshire Terrier - Yorkie Puppy Growth/Weight Chart - watch us grow it puts him at around 4 pounds estimated adult weight, if he follows that growth pattern.

When my boy Jeter was a little over 3 months old he was 1 pound 4 ounces, he is now 14 months old and is 2 pounds 8 ounces, he's so tiny! He was estimated to be about 4 pounds as an adult by his breeder and she was going with past litter's from the same parents. It seemed to take him forever to gain just an ounce! I worried about him being small and not gaining weight. I took him in for weekly weight checks for the longest time at his vet's. He ate well and was healthy, so my vet said he was just going to be a smaller boy.

My Lucie didn't get up to 2lbs until she was around 5 months old. She is 7 months now and barely 3lbs. I don't think it's a bad weight, but he is a little guy. To get more weight on him just start increasing his portions of food a little.

My youngest is 2 1/2 months old @ 1.6lbs and he is syringe fed. I notice he is plump but very healthy. I try to feed him 4 times a day as he'd rather play than eat. Little babies like this tend to forget to eat.

How much does he eat? Monitor his food intake and if he isn't eating enough then increase the amount or do what I do.

My pup vomited bile one day and that was it...I started feeding him myself at least till he's 3-4months old. He hates it but this way I know that he is getting the calories he needs.

Mine was also the same around 5months. She is only 2.3 at 6 1/2months old. She is full of energy and I never syringe fed her. She eats on her own time & I'm not worried about her weight because she is meant to be small. I leave her food out 24/7 as they pick here and there...

I know I should keep my comments to myself, but at 2 1/2 months why are you syringe feeding your puppy? He should have teeth and should be capable of eating by himself. My puppies are 6 weeks old know and have been eating by themselves for 2 weeks, the first week I ground up the dry food and made gruel and now they eat Royal Canin Baby formula and have no problems consuming it. One of mine is only 14 oz and she is strong, healthy and able to fight the boys to the food dish.

I'm not trying to argue with anyone, I just see this as strange.;)

Your puppy is 12 weeks and weighs 30 oz, that isn't terrible. He will probably weight between 4 and 5 lbs, nothing to worry about there.

Actually, the chart is showing him to be around 4 lbs full grown, which is a nice size, they're small, but, it's bigger than a 2 lber.
The breeder I got my last one from, sent me a little bag of the freeze dried chicken, she crushes it and then puts in on their food, my little girl eats like a pig when I put some on her food
here's a website where you can buy it from, you just put it in the pantry and then crush some up on their food when they eat. People can eat it too. Seems kind of expensive, but, she said it lasts a looong time

i think your baby is a nice size and as long as you are okay with a smaller size yorkie, seems like a healthy weight for that age!!

miss buffey was about 1lb, 12 oz at 14 weeks when i picked her up and she has grown into a beautiful, healthy 3.5lb girl...never any problems with low blood sugar and she was spayed at about 5 or 6 months with no problems
