I need your HELP!!! I took JD to the vet tonight for his 3rd session of shots. He will be 3 months in a couple of days. He was fine when he came home, but about an hour or 2 later he was yelping and crying like he was in pain. I called the vet and he said it is probably a reaction to the shot. He told me to get Benadryl and he should be fine. I gave him the Benadryl, but he still isn't right. He looks like he is breathing really fast and if you wake him or if he moves he still yelps. I don't know what to do. Has anyone else ever had this problem? Should I take him to the hospital? |
shot reaction honey I would call your vet back and if he's not avail. I would call your closest emergency vet.....don't panic.........just call |
toby did this as well........ was it the DHPP?(sp?) shot that he had???..... toby did the same yelping and crying, adn he was also moving around a lot like he couldnt get comfortable..... finally he went to sleep and he was fine the next day, a little bump might stay on the back of his neck for a week or so (this is normal).... i didnt give toby anything for it (im not mean really, i just dont like the effects when I take benedryl, i certainly wouldnt give it to my baby.... but thats only because it makes me feel like Sh*t when i take it)....im sure hes fine, if you want to call again go ahead, but emergency vets are expensive and from what i hear this is a fairly common occurance after they get shots... dont worry he will feel better :( |
Thanks for the replys. I think I'm just going to do the mom thing and stay up to watch him breath all night. :) |
lol....... i did that too :p ....... except i found myself poking toby every two minuits because he is an EXTREMELY deep sleeper.... i would lift his leg adn it would just drop... so i would think he was dead..... and then i would shake him and hed wake up....... around the tenth time i did this he actually got up and moved away from me  ....... everytime hed wake up hed give me this look like "mooooooooooooommmmmmmmmmm stoooooooooooooooop!!!!!!!!!!!"........hehe |
When Hercules got his first shot, he reacted similarly and I was freaked out too. When we touched him, he would cry and all he wanted to do was sleep, which was uncommon for him. Luckily, the next day he seemed fine. So as long as he is ok this morning, I think he's ok. |
Is JD doing better today? Is his breathing still fast? If not I would definatley take him to see your vet. I lost my 4 month old Yorkie to a vaccination shot. These little one's can go down quick so Im not trying to make you panic just to head to the vet soon if he doesn't seem to be acting like his usual self. |
Thanks again for all of your replies and concern. JD woke up this morning like his old self. Thank God! I did a lot of praying last night and got little sleep, but it was worth it. Seeing him normal this morning was great. Thanks again guys, I wouldn't have made it through the night without your feedback. :) |
I'm very glad that JD is back to normal. That's exactly how Hercules was with his first shot. No other shots have affected him that way, so hopefully JD will be ok if he has more shots to come too! |
Magic did this as well on her second shots...she jumped when the vet stuck her and had to stick her twice and he told us that it would make her really sore but to let her rest and she would be okay...we did just this and the next day she was back to herself...the shots just take it out of them....and I am glad that your little one is fine!! |
Oh good - I am so glad he is feeling better - you must be SO relieved!! Yay! |
schatzie.... What shot was it? I'm sorry to hear of your loss. :( |
Sooo glad your baby is better, those shots can be a nightmare.......get some sleep tonight... |
Glad to hear all is well :))) Gina |
