I Am Glad I went w/ My Gut Feeling on this!! **Warning for others** 1 Attachment(s) So Gucci was sick the other day ( vomiting and diarrhea ) I took him to his vet got meds ( Flagyl and some Cerenia for vomiting ) .. He got his first dose of Flagyl that evening and he began acting really hyperactive, I mean CRAZY, running in circles and barking and biting and jumping all over... we couldn't even catch hold of him because he kept zipping off. Now, normally Gucci isn't exactly calm but HE WAS BOUNCING OFF THE WALLS!! My husband said maybe he was just feeling better or getting bigger so he had more energy and I was like No, this is NOT NORMAL.. he is being Bananas! That night he kept me up until 4 a.m (our bed time is usually 10 p.m) and he woke up bright and early rocking the place lol... So he got his morning dose of Flagyl at 11:15 a.m and the mayhem got worse, he was acting like a tazmanian devil all day!! Around 1:30p.m I started getting a bit more concerned because he woke up at 9 a.m and STILL HADN'T TAKE A NAP.. he was literally going Insanse and his heart rate was crazy from acting nuts.. I called the Vet again and let them know and they told me to bring him in. When we got there the vet told GUCCI "Oh your feeling REAL GOOD aren't you" :D lol because even she noticed he was WAYY OVER THE TOP! she thought it might have been the sugar in the Pedialyte, but then she also noted that it may be a Neurological side effect from the Flagyl, so to stop giving it to him and we will go from there. We went home and gave no more Flagyl at around 4 p.m he began getting tired FINALLY but I noticed that it was about 5-6 hours into the Flagyl treatment just like the night before. He woke up that evening and was my little crazy Gucci :animal36 again not the Tazmanian Devil! lol... he was back to normal. We went back to the vet today and it is thought that it was the FLAGYL so just a warning although It does not happen often, there can be Neurological Side effects from this medication and they can present themselves as Hyperactivity.. if left to go on that way they can suffer permanent damage. I AM SO GLAD I WENT WITH MY GUT FEELING, everyone kept saying that I was probably just overreacting and I kept telling them that he is NOT NORMALLY LIKE THIS.. and I just went ahead and took him to the vet... Thank Goodness I did, I don't know what I would have done if something happened to this lil guy :( he truley has my heart. - Thanks for Reading! Hope this might help someone later on... There he is below back to Normal!! we could hold him again lol.. It was THAT BAD |

Thanks you guys!! I just want for him to be healthy and happy! I am glad he's all better too! I was worried he was going to be crazy forever if it wasn't the meds lol.. he was really going Bonkers!! mom 4 winston I will give him hugs for you guys and thank you!! |
Wow! Way to go! Glad Gucci is okay!:D |
He's so cute!!!! Look at that face :) I'm glad you went with your gut! You always know whats best for your babies. I so want a boy yorkie now. LOL |
I wasn't aware of this. Thanks for informing us about what happened and we all can watch out for this. I'm so glad you took him back to the vet. Sometimes we don't think about it being the meds and it having back effects on them and reactions just like humans. It can be serious to those little guys. Glad he is back to himself again. |
Thanks for the warning! It's a good reminder that all medications can have side effects. Good for you for going with your gut and taking him to your vet. |
Good job Mama! Way to follow your gut instincts. That picture is adorable :) |
