Spaying and doing it right I'm disregarding what my vet said about sophie getting spayed after the end of the year, since tomorrow she turns 6 months and I don't want to chance her going into heat. I have been researching and want to make sure that I'm on the right track since this is a major surgery. I know Isoflurane is the best to use, I'm also planning on doing the blood work before hand. I'm pretty sure she will have to have some teeth pulled, I wanted to wait longer on spaying her because of this, but I think this is for the best. I plan on getting a pack of the baby onsies for her, I'm also hoping to get the laser spay for her, because it seems to be better and it might give me more peace of mind since she is only 3 1/2 pounds. I'm also going to ask if i can get some pain meds just in case, because I don't want her in any pain. My question is, am i forgetting anything or missing anything important? This is my first dog, and I want to make sure everything goes well. I have been looking at lots of the posts and was trying to compile a list of important things, and I'm getting kind of overwhelmed with it all. |
wow sounds like you've got it all!! She is going to do just great :D maybe a special toy for when she gets home? :D |
My little Bella was only 4 months when the vet suggested to get her spayed (since she was going to be under anathestic anyways). She was only a little over 2 pounds and she did well. The only thing was..she had an accident in her crate after I picked her up from the vet =] Good luck with your little one. |
Since she is so small, I would make sure the surgery is done in a heated surface and she has an IV incase medicine needs to be administered quickly. Sounds like you're well prepared, though! |
Buffy, our babies have the same birthdays(June 8th). I like to have mine spayed by 6 mos. My last yorkie(that my son has was done right around 5 mos, and was right around 3 lbs. she did fine. I'm worried with the one I have now, as she's not even 2 lbs. so, am afraid I'm going to have to put off her spaying until after she's a year old. I really doubt she'll ever hit the 3 lbs or even 2 1/2 lb mark. I'm sure yours will do fine. Good luck |
