Does Cigarette Smoke Bother Dogs? I will be a new (Morkie) owner on December 23rd. I am a smoker and i am wondering if the smoke will hurt her. I will not be blowing smoke directly in front of her face, or letting her get into the butts(of the cigarettes), but it (the smell) will be inside the house. Are there any proven facts that smoke can harm their lungs as second hand smoke applies for humans? |
Just from doing a quick Google search.... Secondhand Smoke Causes Cancer in Pets | LiveScience Freedom From Tobacco - Quit Smoking Now It's nice that you even thought about it, I'm sure a lot of people don't. Welcome to YT! :) |
I googled it and found these: Cigarette Smoke & Pets - Associated Content Second-hand Smoke Harms Pets I don't know if it is an option but if you can you should really consider quitting. I am not trying to be mean or anything but it does sound very harmful to your pet as well as your own body. Maybe if that is not an option you should follow the guidelines and not smoke inside, as that would be the best you can do for your future dog. Vanessa |
Hi and welcome to YT :wavey: It's great you are considering the health of your furbaby before you even have him/her xx xxx |
i think second hand smoke is very bad for them(they also have VERy sensitive little noses), and it's really nice of you to think about this issue before bringing your doggie home. milu barks when she sees people smoke.(and she really rarely barks!) i think maybe she thinks people are on fire or something. she is like "omg! you are on fire!!!" she also barks if she sees people smoking on TV or in the movies. it is REALLY FUNNY! so maybe your dog won't let you smoke near it without barking your ears off! :D |
Yes, it definitely affects pets. Just imagine it affects a human standing next to the smoker so imagine 7 pound yorkie. I use to smoke everywhere in the house but once I got Maxi I only smoke in the bathroom as I dont want my baby to be affected by the choice I make. ;) I also quit for a while and now I smoke only couple of cigarettes a day ( I used to smoke 1 1/2 packs a day). That was done just for my sweet little furbutt. ;) |
We never smoke in the house here, we go out in the garage. I never allow my dogs to be around cigarette smoke |
It can also cause ear infections. I am a former 2 pack a day smoker for 15 years and have to say quiting is the best thing I have ever done!! I did it when I got pregnant. Maybe having a fur baby will give you the reason you need to quit. Good luck! |
i too smoke , but never in the house,, i go outside , would never want to be the cause of something happening to lexi.. oh no!!... everytime i light up, lexi runs to the front door,, she knows i have to go outside to smoke... its very dangerous for them.. |
Thanks... Thank everyone for all your input! I will make sure that there will be no smoking around my baby! I will go outside if i choose to light up! |
