Feeding Potatoes I have a friend that feeds her mixed breed dog pieces of raw potatoes when she is peeling them for dinner. She told me that she recently read "Marly and Me" and it says in there that dogs shouldn't eat potatoes at all. I have read the book and don't remember that but it has been a long time ago. What do y'all think of that? Could it possibly be a weight control issue he was writing about? |
Dogs can have potatoes. I would peel and cook them first. |
I read you have to be careful not to give potatoes that are green |
I use potatoes all the time in the food I cook for mine, also if you read the packages of natural dog foods, you will see that a lot of them have potatoes and sweet potatoes in their foods. |
That's pretty much what I thought. Thanks for your input! |
Cooked potatoes are great for them-but raw or undercooked potatoes can cause stomach upset and make them vomit or have diarrhea. Just make sure they're cooked well and unseasoned. Oh, and try sweet potatoes too :) They love them! |
Some dogs cannot have nightshade vegetables at all, so there can be an issue there. Other than that though, potatoes are a nice carb for them bc they're grain free - I'd always cook them though. :) |
