Help With Pre-Neuter and Post-Neuter Care 1 Attachment(s) Max (aka Panne) is going in to get neutered, teeth removed, and to have a urine test analysis tomorrow. They have to clear him on being safe for surgery and on the UTI first. He is one year old. I want to make sure I'm doing everything right. The vet said not to feed him tonight or tomorrow morning. I'm trying to let him rest today and not giving him another walk because I want him to be as strong as he can be. I will be bringing bed, harness, and leash to the vet. Am I forgetting anything? When I pick him up I'm bringing bed, treats, food, water, and my love :). I didn't think I was going to worry but now I am! I have a few questions: 1. How many days should he stay in the house without walks? Can I carry him if I have to go some where on the third day if he is doing well? 2. How many days should I make him stay in the exercise pen/leash? 3. Should I offer him food/water/treats right away when he comes home? Any other advice is appreciated. Thanks! Vanessa P.S. I wanted to take a picture of him sitting, but then he decided to roll over to show off the little things that will be gone tomorrow! The pic is from my phone so it isn't very good. |
Both my boys were fine the afternoon of their surgery. Honestly neither acted like anything had beed done at all. You won't need water, treats, or food when you pick him up. If anything...he will be sleepy and sometimes the anethesia upsets tummies. By evening you can offer food...I never restricted mine from water. It was there if they wanted it. My vet's office won't take in their personal items like blankets....so he may or may not be allowed his bed. Good luck to both of you! |
His bed is for the car ride, but thank you for the advice. Hopefully he also has a speedy recover like your boys. |
Your vet should give you post-care instructions, but if I can remember correctly from when Franklin was neutered, we were allowed to give food as soon as we got home but not the normal amount; water was never restricted. He did not have any exercise restrictions but I still tried to keep him from running around and jumping on and off the furniture. He was tired/groggy the day of his surgery but pretty much was back to normal the next day so it was tough keeping him calm! Don't let him bother the incision and get a onesie or e-collar if needed. Also, no baths until after the stitches come out. |
