First homecooked meal So I was making dinner today and had some left over chicken that I had boiled so I threw it in the food processor with some cooked carrots, a little broccoli and a little bit of garlic. I blended it all up and added a little bit of water to thin it out. Anyways I just thought I'd see how Stormy would react and she loved it! She ate the whole bowl of it. I did mix it up with her kibble so that it isn't a "sudden change". Is it okay to home cook for her part-time? Is that alright to feed her what I made? Also the other day for breakfest we had eggs and I gave her a little to try and she also liked them. |
Homecooking is wonderful, but it is important to follow a recipe prepared by a canine nutritionist to make sure it is balanced and you are adding the proper supplements. Dogs, for instance, need about twice as much calcium as we do, and the calcium to phosphorus ratio needs to be correct or they can have skeletal, cardiac and neurological problems. Of course it's fine to give Stormy an occasional taste of chicken or egg you make for your family along with her kibble. Just make sure you never feed her fatty meats like bacon, sausage or ham that can trigger pancreatitis or human foods that are toxic to dogs like grapes or onions. |

No I don't really have the time to be doing this alot, I just had some left overs and thought I'd give her a little treat. She gets kibble and some canned food but I ran out and it's Sunday so I thought I'd use what I had! Thank you for the tips, I will keep that in mind. |

That sounds fine as long as the chicken was very lean and not seasoned. Although this is controversial, I wouldn't add garlic in any amount if I could get around it. |
It was lean chicken breast, no skin or bones, I boiled it and then put it in the processor without any seasoning. It was just that, carrots a little broccoli and a little piece of garlic for flavor. I will leave it out next time. I want to get her on some vitamins so I can make her a couple dinners a week possibly just to switch it up from the canned. |
