My poor Bella Bella went to the Vet this morning to be spayed and have 4 baby teeth pulled. The Vet called me to ask me if there was a possibility that she was pregnant. I said no that she has never been near a male dog. He told me she was having a false pregnancy. I had read about this previously on this site (this is why I love this site). He said she was very young to have a false pregnancy, he was worried it might be polycystic ovaries. I asked him if we should postpone the surgery, but he said if it was the PO's he wanted to remove them before it got worse. So my baby had the surgery but she cannot come home tonight, they want to keep her to watch her. She came out of the surgery fine and was awake with her eyes open and doing good. I feel so bad, I was so worried all day. I am waiting to hear from the Vet to see if it was a false pregnancy or PO. She has never been away from home this long let alone all night. I can just read her thoughts wheres my MOM and GRAMMY.:aimeeyork |
Awww, poor Bella baby!! Good for you for getting her spayed! Her health could have been really compromised had you not gotten it done or waited for a few years. Can you visit her tonight? Or do you think that would be too stressful when you had to leave her? Hugs and kisses from my boys to you and Bella!! |
I am so sorry Bella is going through this and has to stay overnight. I hope she is back home in your arms very soon. Big hugs from Kara and Bobby |
I'm so sorry your baby had to have her ovary's removed, but why didn't the Vet. run tests before doing such major surgery? Did you ask her? I hope she gets to come home real soon. |
I talked to the Vet I talked to the vet yesterday afternoon. He said in all his years as a vet working with little dogs he has never seen a dog with her uterus and ovaries so enlarged. She went into heat in early to mid Sept. Was done with it in late Sept to early Oct. When he looked at her nipples yesterday he called me and said she was in a false pregnancy or pregnant. I told him she had never been near a unneutured male dog while she was in heat or otherwise. He was worried about Polycyctic Ovaries and he wanted to do the surgery just in case it was. When he opened her up everything was enlarged. He said the incision was larger than he would have liked because of the organs size. From what I can understand when they spay a dog they just take out the ovaries. But he was aftaid to leave her uterus because it was so enlarged he was aftaid of an infection. Her teats were filled with milk also. He said her nipples may always stay a little large. He is perplexed. He is going to do some research on her condition. My poor little baby.:aimeeyork |
Bella I am glad to hear she came through it fine. |
Thank You We will be picking her up at 10:00. I can't wait to hold her in my arms. I will post how she is. She is a tough little girl. :aimeeyork |
I hope your baby girl is okay. :( When a dog is spayed, their ovaries and uterus are removed. It is important to remove the uterus because of the risk of pyometra. There may be some variations on this but that is standard. :) |
So sorry. The separation, the worry are the worst. Prayers going up for you and Bella. |
Bella is home Hi everyone Bella is home. Rough day yesterday though. She came through the surgery good. She is home very sleepy eating and drinking a little (she isn't a big eater normally. Wearing a onsie. And being ths little princess she is. But whew getting her antibiotic and pain killer in her is a challenge. My daughter went to pick her up at 10:00am yesterday , with my Discover Card. The receptionist said we don't take Discover. I could swear I paid by this card previously. She said no. So my daughter calls me in a panic. By the way the bill was $592.10, she was spayed and had 5 baby teeth pulled. But the vet charged extra because she was in a false pregnancy. And 30.00 for meds and 10:00 for waste disposal. I had to come up with 600.00 cash, now I am in a panic. (Bad cash year daughter is in college). The receptionist told my daughter they can't release Bella until the bill is paid in full. She is crying her eyes out, I am scrambling for cash in tears. Finally my son came through for us (he owed me money from previous years). I think this is awful we have been using this vet for years. They didn't even give the option of a post dated check. I was so scared. Anyway thank god she is home and doing well. Just going to snuggle with her all day. Thanks everyone for your replies.:aimeeyork |
So glad Bella is home and in your arms!! Poor little thing! On a side note, please don't be too mad with your vet clinic. I know that here, things have gotten pretty bad and my husband's clinic has started cracking down on payment in full before release. It's really sad but they were tens of thousands of dollars in the red from past due accounts. Do they offer care credit? It may be something to consider for future emergencies. |
I am so glad your baby got through this ok. It's stressful enough getting the spaying and teeth out let alone this unwanted discovery! Glad you have her in your arms! I know the vet's have to be careful but it's not like you were'nt going to pay...you did have a cred cd w you and offered a post dated check. Especially since you have been going there for years. They really should have made an exception.....you and your daughter shouldn't have had to go through more than you did! Prayers for a quick recovery! |
Thanks I just needed to vent. I was in such a panic about them not releasing her until I paid. The thought of her being in a cage alone for more time then she needed to be was scary. I am so glad to have her home. She is so funny, being the little diva she is. She will run after the cat, but when we go into another room she will stand there and whine. Like Mommy, grammy how could you leave me here all alone. Come pick me up. Shes eating good. Peeing and pooping good. Just a little sad. Also just wanted to thank everyone for listening. :):aimeeyork |
Poor baby. Sounds like she is a real trooper. |
