Fleas! Please help! Rocky is my first Yorkie and though I have had him for 2 years now I am still learning all things yorkie. Recently he has come across a lot of fleas. My husband and I have moved so now he goes outside to play, so I assume he has gotten them there. However, the problem is not just one or 2 fleas, he is LOADED with them. When i first saw them I bathed him and a couple days later I applied the topical medicine. It has been 3 weeks since then and my husband and I just found around 10 fleas on his little body. I cant imagine how horrible it must feel for him. Now I have no idea what to do. I read about dawn soap, but I was contemplating taking him to the groomers for a full shave, but Im not sure that will work. Any suggestions?? Thanks in advance!:animal36:animal-pa |
I have had dogs my whole life and the only one that has ever had fleas is my Yorkie! They must be flea magnets!!! Any way I just washed him with his normal shampoo and then wet him down with home made flea dip I made buy boiling garlic and rosemary then straining it through a piece of cloth and letting it cool. About 1 tbs of each in 2 cups of water. He hasn't gotten them back but it is cold here now. It makes him smell a little funny but not too bad. |
Oh dear! I feel you on this one...Fiona had fleas for an ENTIRE MONTH and a half...she has been flea free for about 3 weeks now! It was a royal pain in the you know what! I don't think we had them in the house, more so from outside, and since she was 6 months at that time, I didn't have her on any prevention, so she was an easy target....we did everything from using a spray bottle with 50 % water and 50% white vingear, dawn dish soap, johnson and johnsons baby shampoo, flea/tick shampoo, borax on the carpet, then a flea/tick spray...fleas were just really bad this year, so good luck! I had to get the vet to give me Capstar which is a pill them kills them from the inside out, and i gave her the 2nd dose last week, and thats what i think killed them all! its a pain, and im with you on it! |
Hi,I live in Il the northwest part.We have never had fleas, until now,i went to the web site to see about CAPSTAR,I read that you can use it,but it dose not stay long term.I like what you use,can you please tell me about it I want to use this for my kids.I have a mom and puppies.Let me know how and were and all the good stuff to make this.thanks so much...................... |
thanks for the advice. I showered him with dawn soap today so lets see how that works. Ill let you guys know! Thanks again! :):) |
If he had that many they are most likely in your carpet and you are going to have to treat it also |
fleas have been really bad this year, because gracie cant seem to get rid of them. I treated in the beginning of this month and had to treat her again with frontline twice, i just hope i didnt over do it, but she wont stop biting herself. |

after showering him about 3 days later he had fleas again. I washed his bed and my bed, vacuumed everything and there are no rugs in my house, all tile, so i dunno what else to do. The vet suggested I shave him, but I was kinda hoping I didn't have to do that:-/ |

I have mine on Revolution Once a month. It really works for us. |
I saw on the internet about some stuff called cedarcide which is for animals, house and the grass. Fleas do not like cedar and euclyptysus. I run a flea comb through chester almost daily, you can put some vaseline on the comb and they cannot jump off. You can put some soap and water in a container and put it by a light the fleas go for the light jump in the soap and water and cannot get out. Fleas like to hang out where your pet has been their bedding etc and vacum the crooks and crevices. Good Luck |
Comfortis Has anyone had their baby have a reaction to Comfortis? One of my best friends bought LuLu's sister and gave her Comfortis for the fleas. She ended up in the emergency hospital. So...when my vet suggested it to me, I told him about "Priss" and he said it would be better to NOT give it to LuLu. So....I, too, tried the Frontline....but nothing is working. It is a daily battle. Has anyone found anything other than Comfortis that works? |
my dexter has fleas too I am so frustrated. We had to fly to Texas from MD for Thanksgiving, and I hadn't noticed any fleas on him before we left. I bathed him that Thursday, and didn't see any. But I noticed he was itching and scratching like crazy. On Sunday I was watching TV, and I saw them crawling around on my poor baby!! Uggh. I bathed him with shampoo and my sister and I picked off as many as we could find. I put on some Hartz flea stuff, because I left the frontline in MD (unfortunately I hadn't put any on him in a while). And it's only been a couple of days, but I still see some. I bathed him yesterday with flea shampoo, and today I saw a couple, but got em. How often can I bathe him with the flea shampoo? and what should I do with the rest of the house? I'm so freaked right now. Dexter's mommy:confused::aimeeyork |
Wow...I can't believe so many others are battling fleas. My Lily has just a few but I check her every day and use a flea comb. The comb has been my best defense. She is pregnant and due in two weeks so I don't want to use insecticides. I vacuum daily but just as a precaution I bought some flea collars, cut them in half and put them under the furniture and around her bed making sure she isn't in direct contact with them. Might sound dumb but I'll try anything. |
Aw :( I hateeee fleas, they're such a pain in the butt. I don't get what they're good for, grrr. I think I found one on Lilly the other day. I'm a hugeee worry wart so I killed it of course then got her a Comfortis pill and Borax for the carpets. I put the Borax down and left it on the carpets over night then vacuumed it up the next day. I don't get it. I bathed her today with Dawn then with her normal shampoo & conditioner. I didn't see anything, not even flea dirt. I think it's stupid everyone is having to deal with fleas still! |
I do not have any problem with fleas and maybe it is because I give my girls 1/2 of a tablet of Brewers Yeast with Garlic.....They Love it :).....and I Love they they have not had any fleas.......I get it at Wal Mart in the pet department..... |
