Those of you who have had babies with a UTI From a few different things that I have read, I think one of our yorkies may have a UTI. I will put her in a confined area with her pee pad and she will go on it, then I will let her out and she will pee again within a few mins on the floor. It seems like she pees SEVERAL times a day. She is small, under 4lbs but I know she can hold it for more than 5 mins, and she does. She will go an hour or so without going, but then sometimes she will go 3-4 times in an hour no matter how much she has, or hasn't drank. Also we have only had her here with us for a little over a week and I know she was pee pad trained there, and she knows where the pee pad is here, but unless she is right next to the pad she won't go on it, almost like when she decides she has to go, she has to go right then. Are these some symptoms of a UTI in a dog? If so do I need to take her to the vet for some meds, or is there meds at the store? Or is she just having a hard time adjusting to using a pee pad elsewhere? I'm just confused why she is going to the bathroom so often. |
Going 3-4 times in an hour is way too much. Are you sure she isn't marking? She needs to be checked for a UTI. Your vet may want you to bring a urine sample but it is really better if they take it. If she has one, they will put her on antibiotics. Occasionally frequent urination can mean something more serious, like stones. If she is diagnosed with a UTI and it doesn't go away or recurs or she is diagnosed with stones, I would have her bile acids tested. It should be a simple fix though. :) |
That seems like a lot. How old is she? Mine that use the pee pads do go a lot but not more than every few hours. I would have the vet check her out. Maybe you could just bring in a urine sample (just turn the pee pad upside down to catch sone urine. Keep us posted. |
I don't THINK she is marking, she is the new one in the house, I would think that our male that we already have would mark, but he isn't. But I don't think she is marking because she pees mostly in the kitchen on the tile, and Wrigley never has had an accident on the tile (haha yep he always went straight for the carpet) and don't they usually mark after they smell other's pee? She doesn't go 3-4 every hour, but sometimes she will go a few hours without going, then she will go a few times in an hour, then none for a little while. At first I thought it was her adjusting to living somewhere else especially because she only uses her pee pad like 40% of the time, but she is still doing it. She doesn't appear to be in any pain though, and can hold it all night. So maybe she is marking? Or maybe she just isn't getting it all out at once. She will go a normal amount once, then a few smaller ones. |

She isn't consistantly going 3-4 times an hour, just sometimes. And 2 hours ago she went twice in an hour and hasn't went since. She doesn't seem to be catching on to going on the pee pad here very well, even though she was pee pad trained before coming here. Could it be because we use a different brand of pads? |

Even if she holds it for a few hours, she shouldn't go that many times ever in an hour unless she had a whole lot of water. Going a lot once and then small amounts after that could indicate a problem. |

I have one that will dribble small amounts at these times dispite how long ago she went. I wonder since they can have cranberries if it helps with urinary issues like it does in humans? |
Uti Tea' had a UTI about a year ago. Symptoms were almost the same, and I brought her to the vet for a simple urine test (which they took there) and they diagnosed it immediately. Put her on antibiotics for 10 days to 2 wks I believe, and the UTI has never returned:) Debbie Tasha, Katie and Tea' (due with pups on December 1st!!):p |
But wouldn't she be in pain if she had a UTI? I guess we will just have to take her to the vet. It just will be kinda hard because we have out of town family coming and staying with us starting tomorrow. Maybe they can get her in tomorrow morning. Since we just got her last week they have never seen her before, but they have seen our other yorkie so hopefully it won't be a problem. I just wish I knew before hand if it was a UTI or if she is just still adjusting to the move and to having a new yorkie around, before we made an appointment to take her in. |

She didn't act like she was in pain at all. |

Poor thing, looks like we will be making an appointment. Hopefully we can get one before we have family in town tomorrow |
I had the same problem when I first brought my baby home. I got her when she was 10 weeks old and she would pee outside as soon as I brought her out but like 10 minutes later she would pee in the house. She would pee 3 or 4 times a hour. I was convinced that she had a bladder infection and I even called my breeder and asked if this was normal. I had a 13 year old male yorkie that we had to say good-bye to last winter and I remembered he trained really easy and he never had to pee 4 times an hour. Before that I had male poodles through the years and I never remembered them ever doing that either. I thought that this might be a female thing or maybe it was because it was July and it was hot and she was drinking quite a bit of water. The breeder said that she thought that was a lot and to be on the safe side have her urine checked. The test was $60 and everything came back perfectly normal. The vet said that being she was such a tiny puppy 2lbs., she also had a tiny immature bladder and that was common with these tiny dogs. Every month got a little better and she is now 6 months 5lbs and can hold it about 2 hours. My male could hold it all day if he had to but he was a lot bigger 10lbs. I guess every dog is different. Piper just got spayed last week and I'm wondering if I'll see a change. |
If it is UTI you could try a little apple cider vinager in her water or on her food. 1/2 teaspoon a day. What kind of food do you feed? |
The only symptoms Cali had when she had her UTI was she peed on my bed which she never had done before and she was licking her privates a lot. I would get her checked out. Keep us posted. |
