Adult Dog eatting puppy food? ETA- I hate when I have a spelling error in my title GRR So our 5 1/2 month old, Wrigley is on Wellness puppy. We brought Rainer home a week ago today. For the first day or so she didn't really eat much of anything. Now she eats, but she tends to go for Wrigley's Wellness puppy instead of the food her previous mom had her on. The food is has been on isn't a bad food or anything, it is grain-free as well. Wrigley sometimes goes for her food because she ends up eating most of his lol -- I want him on the puppy food though and not eating her "adult" food. She is 3 years old and and weighs in just over 3lbs. Is it okay to switch her to the Wellness puppy until Wrigley gets off of the puppy food, since she likes it quite a bit and mostly eats that anyways, or does it lack something she needs as an adult? If she shouldn't eat the puppy food as her food, how in the world do you guys food them separate?? They eat throughout the day so they don't have meal times really because they only eat so much at a time. |
While puppy food won't "hurt" her...it has a higher protein and fat content which may result in her gaining weight. Mine have never eaten "puppy" formula foods. |
So then, is it okay to feed an almost 6 month old 6.5lb yorkie the regular Wellness? Would he be missing out on things he need? |
i am curious also. My two love each others foods! One is 14 1/2 mos and the other is 6 mos. I have them on Innova Puppy and Adult. The woman where I get their food from said that by 6 mos they have gotten a lot if not most of what they need from the puppy food. And if Hot Rod's weight is okay then some puppy food will not hurt him. I still would like to keep them eating their respective foods though. I literally sit with them and police them while they eat. I have put some of each kibble in each of their bowls but the problem with that is Maggie (6 mo old) will eat the adult food and that's it. So I am looking for some help with this too. |
haha our dogs will literaly trade foods half of the way through, and they don't like to eat unless the other is right there, so we put the bowls close together. Then they will be eating out of the right bowl and then all of the sudden they will switch lol |
There are a number of all life stages food that they can both eat. |

hmm so maybe I'll just get a regular Wellness bag soon and start blending it.... haha though maybe they don't need it to be blended, they have been eating each other's food just fine for several days now and haven't had any stomach issues haha Thanks, maybe I'll try that... it sure would make it easier on me :) |
