Eggs? :confused:I'm sure it's in this thread somewhere but does anyone know for sure how many eggs - scrambled dry - egg only - are acceptable per week? I have a Yorkie who loves eggs. I want to be sure - and it looks like this thread knows everything! |
Ellie eats homecooked food and she used to have an egg a day as her protein source. I would just use your own judgment and you may want to skip or go easy on the yolks. |
If you boil, just give 1/4 each day for three days to see if she starts itching. Some dogs, like my Zada are allergic to eggs. If nothing happens, then you can scramble in just a little olive oil, enough to just barely coat a portion of the skillet. Another way to cook eggs is to put the raw egg into a zip-lock sandwich bag, shake till the yolk is broken & the egg mixed, then put in a pan of boiling water. The egg will slide right out when done. |
Thanks! :) Quote:

I give mine turkey (2 days), Beef (lean ground serloin or stewmeat) (2 days), fish (2 days---usually wild salmon or wild orange roughy), and eggs (1 day). You can feed eggs more often...but this arangement has worked for me and they get a 'balanced' diet. In addition, they get a variety of veggies, such as: green beans, asparagus, bell peppers, broccoli, carrots, cabbage, etc... They also get fruit: organic blueberries (organic is important because pesticides can be absorbed in berries if not) frozen or fresh, pear, apple, banana, etc.... in moderation. I add flax seed if I'm not feeding fish. One of my dogs can't eat chicken (allergy) or rice (allergy)---which is why i don't give them that. But I give them pasta (small rings, usually), potato, sweet potato... I also give them a multivitamin. i hate processed food. It seems unnatural. I do like RAW...but can't get myself to give it to them. |
If your dog likes eggs...why don't you try making a sweetpotato-zucchini omlette? For my four (less for you): I coat the pan with EVOO (lightly) I put about 3/4 of a small Zucchini... and i cook on low until toasty brown (very good smell) I add 3 eggs and about 3 heaping table spoons of baked sweet potato. Sprinkle of flax seed I mix it in the pan and let it set so it'll get a 'shape'. Then flip. Then once it looks done, I cut the pieces for my babies... sometimes I have extra which I'll save for snack. |

my girls get one scrambled egg between 3 of them per week as snack. |
One of my girls all time favorite meals is made in the slow cooker. 1. 2 pound pot roast cut up 2. fresh carrots 3. fresh green beans 4. small yellow or new potatoes cut in half, leaving skin on 5. 1 cup of V-8 Put in slow cooker for 4 hours. This feeds my three girls for 5 days Another paw licking recipe is: 1. package chicken livers cooked and chopped 2. 2 cups cooked old fashion oatmeal 3. 1 cup plain yogurt 4. 3 tablespoons honey Mix together and serve warm. |

i also cook for sammy, and i was thinking about going to a high quality dog food, because of the supplements, i just cannot afford a nutritionist at this time. i am taking him on tues for bile acid testing and urine testing. so thats going to be a big bill. i am just concerned about the supplements, i dont want to do anything wrong to him. thanks |

Where do they get their calcium and how is the calcium phosphorus ratio balanced? |
I give mine Pet Tabs (vet recommended) Also-- they get calcium from yogurt, cheese, cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, milk, etc... that they have for snack. One of them is on Glucosomine chondroitin because she has a luxating patellar (which has improved enormously since last year, thank God). I also want to add that i'm not a big fan of supplements. I don't think it is natural. I do it to make my vet happy. The only thing that I find useful is the Glucosomine...other than that--- they should be getting whatever they need "naturally". Also want to add: I think that RAW is a good idea. I'm researching that now...however I do see great benefit of homecooked over kibble. Izze has become such a beautiful girl and she feels so much better now with her new diet. |
Also want to add that I use organic flax seed (i have used the oil in the past and its good, but i prefer the seed...) |

it is...and like i said, i'm really considering going RAW. However, kibble does not work for me. I think that it's junk. Izze, even after I switched her to a high quality food, looked like she was in poor health (i baby sat her from March). In July she became mine and I switched her to fresh and you can tell her health is so much better...so imo, it is a better alternative...although I should probably look into a calcium supplement...but I want to go RAW if I can come up with adequate snacks (like midday and when they go to their room or crate) that are sanitary. |
