can our fur babies get bacteria from natures variety medallions i was going to start feeding sammy natures variety medallions, but i am a bit concerned about bacteria or other ailments from feeding raw. should i be concerned? how do i go from homecooked feeding to raw? |
Rarely dogs can get very sick from raw. This is usually only a concern in dogs with a compromised immune system. It is probably less likely with Nature's Variety because it has been frozen. I think that any Yorkie who eats raw should be bile acids tested first. "In my opinion", while raw is a more species specific diet, homecooked is safer. Lots of Yorkies seem to do very well on NV though. :) |

I think diets from nutritionists are becoming available online for free or very cheap if you want to go that way. I would just make sure the recipe meets AAFCO guidelines. |
I feed NV raw and have never had a problem. :) Myths About Raw: Are raw-fed pets a health risk for humans? Myths About Raw: Will my dog aquire parasites from raw meat? Myths About Raw: Will the bacteria in raw meat hurt my dog? |
Bacteria is everywhere so theoretically, dogs could get bacteria from anything. But I feed a Prey Model Raw diet and my dogs have never had any problems with the things I have fed them. Occassionally they might have some loose stools but no more than when they were fed kibble. The health benefits far outweigh the risks in my opinion! Good luck! I think you'll be very pleased with the result you see feeding NV and if you ever decide to go all the way and feed PMR, I'd be happy to answer any questions! |
i guess i will decide after tues morning, i am taking him to the vet. i home check his urine because it is a goldish color and it stinks so bad. also since he never drinks water, i add it to his food. he gets 1/2 cup of water once a day. i do not know if that is good enough. but his home test states he has a trace of protein and a couple of other things were off. so i am playing it safe and taking him. i just dont know what to do, go raw with nv medallions or just buy a high quality canned food and dry food. |
