Eukanuba now Wellness Bad gas & poop
 
Hi!

I have a question. I have six yorkies and recently started reading about their diets. I switched them from Ekanuba to Wellness foods. Now, they have extremely stinky gas. Also, they have been having huge poops (compared to the ones they had on Eukanuba). Has anyone else noticed this? I was under the impression when I switched them they would feel better and have smaller terds?

What do you guys think?:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek: (for our six babies)

Sometimes it takes some babies a bit longer to get their digestive system used to a different food. Introducing the new food over a 3-4 week period is a good idea. Sometimes some will need longer.

When I switched mine to LIfe's Abundance back in June it took me about 3 week. Since then they have had less turds as there are no additives in the food. I'm very happy with it.

Lastly, I also have a 16 year old dog who ALWAYS had the stinkiest GAS! OH MY GOSH! He could gag a buzzard on a dead fowl wagon! There were times our eyes would just water and you had to resort to mouth breathing if you stayed in the same room. I can honestly say he is now always welcome in the room with us. He still has gas because he's, well, and OLD dog :eek:, (they are audible) *giggle* but they don't have the gag-factor! LOL

It has been prob about 2 months since the switch over. They are killing us. But, we just mouth breathe thru it too!!! LOL

I'm wondering if I should switch to Life Abundance? Maybe that will be the magical mixture?

I have had my yorkie (Hooks) on wellness puppy since I got him. I am a little obsessive with smells so it always reeks to me, but his doesn't compare to my shih tzu on the same food. Leo (my shih tzu) wakes me up out of my sleep when he goes to bathroom on the puppy pad it is that bad:eek:.... it may just be different for every dog.

Lady didn't do very well on Wellness Sweet Potato and Whitefish formula. She had horrible gas and frequent, soft stools. Several members on another forum I belong to said they had the same problem with Wellness and Merrick, too.

We feed ours Welliness and they seem to do pretty good on it. We have noticed that Kayla's tee tee smells to high heaven. I wonder if the food could cause that. Maybe should ask the vet. It just smells really strong and gaggy. She drinks enough water so I don't know. Maybe we should try something other than Welliness.

I used to feed my guys Eukanuba too, and had nothing but good results.
But wanting to do better for my crew...I slowly switched them to Wellness. Gassy, smelly poos finally made me switch them to Canidae. None of them liked it. Not a one of them!
I switched them to NV Instinct and am at the botom of our first 20 lb bag. I will NOT be buying it again. Poo's were huge and they all went twice as much. I will be switching them to Merricks. If I do not have good results with that...I may just go back to the Eukanuba. Who knows!!

Ok, so i just switched Bella to Wellness Puppy a month or two ago, and her gas is just horrible! I guess i never even associated it with her food, but now that you mention it,it did seem to start after we switched her from Eukanuba to Wellness. Should i switch her to something else? Is it bad for her to be gassy? Or do we just plug our noses?

I know what you're talking about. I actually posted a thread recently about having issues with more stools with Wellness puppy. I switched Teddy to Wellness from Purina over the period of 3 weeks. His stools increased from 3 a day of purina to 5-6 a day with Wellness. These stools were larger and stinkier too. I was shocked. I completed the switch about 3 weeks ago. However, over the past several days, Teddy has only pooped 3-4 times per day (smaller too) so I'm hoping he's finally starting to adjust. I'm still on the fence as to whether or not I will switch to something else when his current bag or Wellness runs out since he really seems to like this food. I'll continue to monitor I guess. We haven't had any issues with bad gas though...thank goodness.

how long since you made the switch? are you making it gradual? The poops are because their systems are being cleansed out by the good food. But like someone said if it is a fish formula- sometimes they dont' go over well- Layla can't eat salmon kibble- HORRIBLE gas- so i can only imagine with 6 :p try a different variety.

I am thinking of trying the Lifes Abundance?? Any good/bad opinions from anyone? Where is best place to order it from? That is where you get that stuff to put in their water for their teeth too isn't it? THANKS

Ted is on Life's abundance..breeder recommended. So we put Wallace the Lab on it too. His coat is now beautiful and shiny and no more scratching. I think someone here may sell it. Just type in Life's Abundance on the net and you can order it. My 40 pound bag came in two days. It seems expensive, but they need less of it than the store bought brands.

I have never tried this food...so I can't offer you any advice on it. However, I do know that a member named 'Breny" is the one to talk to about both those products.

i switched my yorkie from eukanuba to solid gold and shes doing pretty good it is way better than eukanuba i recommend it

i have my yorkie and my kitten on Wellness core. My yorkie is doing fine on it. My kitten however had the most terrible gas and poop smells. she's on her second 3lb bag now and the smell is gone.

switching to a higher quality food sometimes takes a few weeks to get the results you want. Their digestive system is adjusting to the new food and "flushing" out the old food so that is where the smell comes from. Wellness is great so if you stick with it a little longer you may see and smell better results.

However every dog (and cat) is different so you may not get the same results for all your yorkies.

personally i am not a fan of Life's abundance. It contains Beet Pulp which is a controversial ingredient in dog food- sutdies have shown it can lead to health problems.

My Experience
 
I use only Life's Abundance and all my babies are doing great on it and LOVE it. I even start my new puppies on it and they do great and readily eat it. makes weaning very easy.

All mine have nice shiny coats, bright eyes and have great energy. Their skin is not dry and NO itchies!

They eat well, love their food and are healthy as a horse! LOL :D

Oh and their poo's are nice and small, hard, and do not smell bad at all. (not that it smells good! LOL) And I know this because I have one or two who like to poo wherever they want sometimes!!! But they are all pee pad trained so I pick it up daily and whats nice is that its so small and hard and there is not alot!
