Homemade "Bitter Apple" Does anyone have a recipe for a homemade "bitter apple" type deterrent to keep the puppski out of areas he doesn't need to be? I have the organic recipe for outdoor "cat-scat/dog-off - but nothing that is safe for in the house. Anybody out there? |

Bitter apple isn't meant to keep dogs out of areas, but just to keep them from chewing on certain things. Some people use clear deodorant for the same purpose, but I'm not sure what you mean by keeping the dog out of areas, gates, and doors worked for us. |

Lol, my wires get crossed easy. Some people have had luck with Tabasco sauce; others say their dogs love it. I've heard great results can be had with the clear deodorant, actually the antiperspirant that contains Aluminum chloride. It leaves a really weird feeling on the tongue that causes them to stop licking the area. It can even be used after surgery so that they won't lick the wound. Thanks for the comments on Joey's costume. |

antipersperant can kill dogs. I usually use apple cider vinegar. |

I've seen it on many lists... here's one: Household products that are toxic to dogs |
Here is an article telling you too use it. I still would like to see evidence it has killed a dog. Im sure too much of anything even deodorant could but I dont think rubbing a little on an area that you dont want chewed is going to do it because ALOT of people have used it with good results. What We Do |
I would love to find out what people use to deter their dogs to chew on things, especially natural/ home made stuff. They don't sell Bitter Apple spray in my country, and the bitter spray that I got did not help at all. Antiperspirant may be widely used, but I'm not comfortable with using it. Is there something more natural we can use? Like maybe lime? I remember someone posted a recipe for homemade pee deterrent solution. For the life of me I cannot find it now. Something with hydrogen peroxide? |
I have heard people on here say they use tobasco. Lime or lemon might work also I just dont know for sure |
Oh and i wouldnt use anything with hydrogen peroxide in it it makes dogs vommit |
I'd love to put the tabasco theory into practice, but it's not very cheap over here ;p |
