Vaccines~Are They Safe for Your Dog? I have been doing a lot of research lately on the over-vaccination of our pets controversy. I found this article one of the most complete and concise that I have found so I wanted to share it with the members here as the question seems to come up frequently. This vet gives her recommendations at the end, but I would suggest reading the entire article even though it is rather long. It is so important to your dogs' health. http://www.jeanesholistics.com/id62.html |

You know this reminds me of the controversy(?) over the MMR vaccinations and the link to Autism that they say has been disproven. Who pays for this type of research? The pharmacutical companies. I'm not sure if you remember any of this or even if you have heard it but, it started when the MMR vaccination give at around 18 months of age, it had the preservative Thimersol which is Mercury. So parents got together to see if this was what caused the Autism was the Mercury poisioning. The symptons are the same. I don't know if this was coincidence(sorrry I'm a horrible speller sometimes) or not but, they quit putting Thimersol in the vaccinations. There is always going to be people saying that vaccinations harms more than it hurts and vice versa. Can't make everyone happy. Sheila |

Your are right. Just like the peditricians. |
SoCalyorkiLvr, you are correct in saying this is a rather long article, haaha! But, I found it to be very interesting reading material. Thank you for sharing. After losing my Yorkie Half-Pint to the Rabies vaccination my heart and mind are always open to reading info relating to the vaccinations on our dogs/pets. Unfortunately and out of personal decision by many an autopsy was not perfomed on Half-Pint so there is no concrete evidence to her death. Emotions of sadness by many found it easier to "blame the vaccination" and hurry on forward to the healing process over her loss, rather than staying in the "mode of question regarding her death" and do further research. |
Kim, TY so much for the article. I found the info very interesting. Gucci got her first shots with the breeder, the second shots the second week she was with us. That same week we find out she had ringworm and her vet told me not to worry about the vaccinations that she will get them as soon her ringworm was heal completely. Well it took around 6 months for her ringworm to heal completely. To make the story short, she just got her annual vaccinations(Distemper and Parvo) and rabies this month. I said No the the Lepto. She didnt got all the shots as a puppy, and so far she is being healthy. |
I didn't read this particular article, but this issue has been a topic of debate for a couple of years now. The protocol we've been following for our last two litters was distemper and parvo at 9 weeks and distemper/parvo/hep/parainfluenza (think that's right - we don't give corona or lepto) at 12 weeks. That's it until they get another 4-way booster at 14 months. We try to give the rabies as close to one year as possible. The adults are on a 3-year booster program with the older girls not getting any more boosters. The feedback from veterinarians is that their clients are not comfortable not giving annual vaccines. I'm sure this is partially true, but it also is the bread and butter of their business and I think that may color their opinions. Thanks for bringing this up. I'm anxious to hear how others are handling the issue and if anyone has had problems following a more relaxed vac protocol. CJ |
