Trembling and shaking
 

Hey guys,

I am new to this forum and this is one of our last desperate hopes to get some advice and help. Sorry if I don´t get all the medical terms correct in English, but hope with a little imagination it works.:)

We have a one year old 2 lbs yorkie girl called Lara. She has always been an active puppy, loads of energy and happiness (that is no real signs of hypoglicemia). A few months ago we left her with another couple who also ownes a yorkie (8 lbs, but same age) after we returned we started noticing that after a longer play Lara startes shaking and trembling.

It looks like this: she is panting and shaking (as if cold) but at the same time she also has this rocking motion to it, almost like a (sorry for this) handicapped person. Kind of an uncontrolable rocking of her head and torso. She stands still, shakes and wobbles a little, but she is still steady. She keeps on going and does not stop. It has happened that she need to lay down and even put her head down to keep it in controll. It always goes away after a little rest...

The problem is that it comes back more often and nowdays she does not need a lot of physical activity to get it going. Even a shorter walk is enough. But you never know when it comes. The only thing is that it is physical activity of some kind that activates it. Small sometime or a lot more at other times...

Off course that we are worried and we have done all test and bloodworks:
- loadtest, thyroid, whitebloodcell,
- anatest (but waiting for results)
- x-ray of spine
- next monday we will do CT-scan and liquor test (to test for neurodegenerative sicknesses, hydrocephalus and inflamations)

So far everything came back normal, besides ONE thing: she has very high level of white bloodcell count.

The latest is that she has been prescribed Prednisolon (that is a treatment for white shaker symptom). They suspect some kind of neurological or anti-imune disease???

When searching on the internet we have also come across Eclampsia and the shaking symptoms are the same, but she doesnt have puppies. Hypoglicemia was another idea, allthough we never tried feeding her some extra sugar, but she has a lot of energy, no white gums, but she has bad appetite.

Well basically that is it. We are very worried and are out of ideas. Any advice is welcome!

I'm not sure, but I wanted to bump this up so that maybe someone else can help you. I will keep your furbaby in our thoughts.

Have you had her liver function checked by doing a bile acid test? She's very small and my first inclination would be towards liver or hypoglycemia. Do you keep Nutri-Cal on hand? You might want to give her a little of that the next time you see this happen and see if it stops. Also, if she has a bad appetite maybe some chicken breast in with her food would be good. What are you feeding her?

She is allergic to veal and lamb, so she is on a very good and strict diet. Chicken, chicken liver, turkey, and also the usual dryfood. She usually likes the first ones but is not so very happy about dryfood or canned dog food (no matter how high is the meat %)

Yesterday we tried giving her Nutri-Cal, and after a while the trembling goes away. I am not sure that if it is the NUtri-Cal or the fact that we stopped playing. Cause it always goes away with rest. The problem is that nowdays it comes a lot faster and it seems to be a more intense shaking that is more and more noticable.

She has already been druged for various test 3 times, and Monday it will happen again for the CT anf the brainfluid one... Sometimes I feel the we are just overprotective and cause her a lot of pain and suffering (she is only 1)... but the shaking is there and it started at a very specific moment and it seems to be stroger and more frequent.
